Austin lawmakers spent the morning debating a bill to raise the ad valorem tax rate. A motion to postpone failed after a tied vote due to a corrected tally. The Senate held a bare quorum. the per diem and contingent expense bill passed. Both chambers accepted an invitation to a vaudeville and barbecue at Hyde Park next Monday.
Secretary of State John R. Curl was reported Tuesday afternoon to be in a dying condition at Seton Infirmary where he has been confined for weeks. He was not expected to survive the night. In Sherman a man named Henry Emory was struck by an interurban car Monday night and died early Tuesday morning after stepping onto the track from darkness.
Rainfall of sixty hours washed out nearly half a mile of track between Blue Water and Granite, halting through trains on the Santa Fe. Overland train No. 2 was held at Gallup, other eastbound trains stalled at Seligman, and a wreck on Crookton caused serious damage. The engineer and fireman of passenger train No. 8 were killed.
