Washington Jan 18 A Hepburn subcommittee unanimously agreed upon a report that charges of corruption and bribery against Senator Stephenson of Wyoming were not proven. The findings will go to the committee on privileges and elections for action.
In Washington the judiciary committee prepared to hear Attorney General Wickersham on the tobacco trust. A bill to open hearings on a volatile report was discussed. The military committee agreed to report a bill for partial army reorganization and the inauguration date bill was favorably reported. Harvester trust and Panama Canal hearings continue.
Multiple Texas cities report meningitis concerns with quarantines and health updates. Paris notes no quarantine, Denison cites no authentic cases and one suspect, Dallas reports deaths and five new cases in 24 hours, Kyle blocks telegraph pole unloading citing meningitis fears, and Austin confirms two cases at the university campus with campus health monitoring.
The attorney general filed a $5000 suit against the Missouri, Kaunas and Toma, the Cotton Belt, and the Trinity and Brazos Valley railroads for failing to erect a union depot at Hillsboro. The action, dated January 18, seeks damages and compliance with the depot project.

Aberdeen, Jan 18 The British steamer Winslow Hall was wrecked on Aberdeens rocks. Thirty eight crew members drowned as the ship sank. Only two survived, reaching shore after the vessel drifted for hours amid towering seas. The captain reported the loss to authorities, with a grim tally of casualties.
Washington June 18 A high authority says President Taft has commuted banker Charles W Morse's 14 year sentence to federal prison at Atlanta, citing health concerns. Morse remains under guard as the change is announced.
In Tesemont Texas on January 18 heavy rains caused about half of the yellow pine timber to lose its porosity and downed timbers. The lumber demand is reported to be at its weakest in four years as rainfall continues to affect the timber industry.
In Tyler Texas today four people were shot in separate incidents as fear spread across the East Texas town. A man identified as Tom Tate was arrested amid reports of a grudge linked to local plant deaths, while another victim, Mrs Gus Martin of Waco, died at home.
