The state report says L H Davis registrar of deeds for Surry county was killed by two politicians in a mountain district near Charlotte North Carolina. Davis a Republican intervened as a peacemaker and the assailants, alleged Democrats, fired. The killing is described as accidental.
In Hoschton, Georgia, burglars blew open the safe of Dr. DeLaperriere and stole $1200. A man named Bone was arrested and denied guilt. Bone had checked into a Jefferson hotel the day before under an assumed name.
The Board of Trade convenes a special morning meeting to consider American Tobacco Co. plans for a branch cigar factory in the city. The committee on ways and means has worked intently and is expected to present an encouraging report. Citizens show strong interest in the move and hope for a successful outcome.
The Good Government Club will meet at city hall tonight to nominate a candidate for mayor and four aldermen. Mayor Emanuel is expected to be renominated with little or no opposition. Four aldermen whose terms expire are J B du Bignon J C Calhoun C McGiarvey and T Newman. their renomination will be decided at the meeting.
In Buncombe County North Carolina Sylvester Black and Thomas Young fought over politics while intoxicated. Black attacked Young with a pocket knife and Young stabbed Black in the lungs and abdomen. Black died and Young is jailed. Meanwhile a Huntsville Alabama marriage was postponed due to the groom James H Battle's absence. his parents fear foul play.
In Judge Patton's courtroom Mrs Frances Stuart won a temporary custody of her 4 year old daughter Frances until November 29 after a tense habeas corpus hearing. The child resisted leaving her father policeman William Stuart and the scene drew a crowd before all parties withdrew to a adjoining room where counsel advised reconciliation.
Mrs John KE Moore left yesterday for Lakeland Wisconsin after word of the sudden death of her father John P Scarlett He was aged seventy and survived by a wife and five children Friends and relatives mourn the loss noting his long visits to Brunswick and his hearty yet pale condition at death
In Gainesville Georgia Mrs Thomas Coulter seeks the location of her husband Thomas Coulter who left Gainesville on September 12 1901 with a party of machinists bound for San Francisco He was last heard from June 12 near Fort Scott Kansas and officials say he went to Joplin Missouri He is 58 gray headed with blue gray eyes a scar under the right eye and rheumatic health concerns Any information is requested by his anxious wife.

A negro man was found hiding on the second floor of Mrs. J. K. Nightengale's residence at seven o'clock last night with apparent intent to burglarize the room during supper. He fled over the back fence when discovered by the ladies.
Practically the entire town of Cahoun Falls in Abbeville County was auctioned for 14000 dollars. The 700 acres sold at 320 dollars an acre to Judge W F Cox of Anderson. The Western Carolina Land and Improvement Company built a hotel and several stores before the failed lot auction. Cox plans to form a new company to develop the property.
The Alabama and Georgia Long Distance Telephone Company sold its line to Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company for 12000. Burglars tried to enter the home of H. R. Symons on London street during the early hours last night. The intruders made noise, attracting the family’s attention. Mr. More Symons pursued them, but the thieves escaped before capture.

A. J. Pass, a well known Flatwoods district farmer, shot himself in a vacant house near his home early this morning. Despite being found alive, the thirty eight caliber bullet was fatal.
