Prize dispute over fair travel miles in Valdosta

The State Fair Association offered 25 dollars for the military unit traveling the farthest to Valdosta. Brunswick Riflemen claim the prize over Americus Light Infantry, as judges consider miles times men. Cup Defender Under Construction At New York Yard

Secretary Jormack of the New York Yacht Club said the contract to build a boat to defend the American cup is under way. Ferreshoff is the designer and Captain Barr will sail. Syndicate members include E. H. TM, Clement A. Griscom, J. C. fd, William Rockefeller, Cornelius Van derbilt, Harry Walters, and P. A. B. Widener. August Belmont will commission Constitution and J. P. Morgan will prepare Columbia for trial races.

Lectures and Stereopticon Delight Brunswick Audience

A large cultured audience greeted Mr Glenn with an educational lecture on Brunswick's schools and the need for increased funding. Dr Glenn contrasted educated boys with those ruined by ignorance, while A V Wood's stereopticon entertainments, including Gray's The Elegy in a country churchyard read by Superintendent Ballard, pleased all ages.

Captain Otto Johannesen reports Brunswick's October 1902 shipping totals surpass prior records. Seventy-five vessels entered from foreign and domestic ports totaling 71 142 tons, with 11 067 tons going to foreign ports and 41 367 tons to domestic ports. Exports valued at 2 670 511 dollars, the highest for any month.

Military Boys Return From Valdosta State Fair Trip

The Riflemen and Naval Reserves returned yesterday from Valdosta after participating in Military and Governor day. Lt John Pomey and Ensign Jas Bailey led the groups who praised the hospitality, Governor Terrell and the legislature attended, and the trip was described as one of the best state fair days with strong exhibits and high expectations for future fairs.
