Battle Rages Near Bellano in Mexican Revolution

Four hundred miles south of the border near Bellano, a fierce clash between rebel forces led by Pasqual Orozco and Mexican federals under Huerta dominates the day. About 3,500 troops each fight on the hot arid mesa as neither side can sustain large forces for long. The struggle centers on Bellano with Torreon as a distant objective hindered by supply scarcity and harsh conditions.

Federal forces clash anew near Be llano after march across northern Mexico

Near Reilano Mexico on May 28 federal commander Huerta leading about 4000 troops renewed heavy shelling at daybreak against 5900 insurrectos under Orozco. After two weeks marching through desert plains they pushed 114 miles north of Torreon to a fortified Be llano battlefield as both sides resumed combat and prepared for possible cavalry charges.

Rebels Hold Ground at Rebel Front Bellano May 23

At 7 a m rebels held their positions while heavy artillery fire increased. General J J Campos nicknamed Chinese Campos seized two cannon and a machine gun from the federal left column. Hwerta attempted an eastern flank at 7 30 a m but failed. Orozco has been on the firing line since 5 o'clock as the federal main column fell back by 8 30. The fight centered around hills and shifting lines.

Petition Presented for 3 Million Georgia Coast Bonds

News from Atlanta reports the Georgia Coast and Piedmont Railroad company filed a petition with the Georgia railroad commission seeking authority to issue 3 million dollars in bonds. After hearings the commission will decide soon. Promoters plan to begin extending the line and expect substantial work before July first. Local delegates attended the Atlanta hearing and return home this morning.
