A recent electrical storm in Brunswick damaged the Mutual Light and Water Company plant, burning a barge machine and leaving street cars out of service overnight. Crew used horses and a block and tackle to move cars to the car barn, with power expected to return by morning. No other major damage reported.
Postal rules clarify that two cent letters prepaid for foreign destinations apply only to Canada Cuba Mexico Newfoundland the canal zone Panama Shanghai Germany England Scotland Wales and Ireland. All other countries require five cents for the first ounce and three cents for each additional ounce prepaid or face double postage on delivery.
The Gulf Refining company moved its tank stock and operations from its old Bay Street quarters to newly erected commodious quarters just this side of the Standard Oil company. The company recently purchased the property and plans to expand its business in the city.
A bankruptcy petition was filed yesterday with Referee Isaac by B. H. Carter & Son of Bristol Appling county general merchants. Liabilities total 7440.45 with assets of 3966.45 including stock and accounts. Brunswick firms appear among creditors. Hearing assigned in this city on May 39.
Savannah merchants join a Southern delegation to a Washington conference on Tuesday to set rules for inspecting short leaf pine. Leaders from multiple Savannah firms push for an official inspector system at ports to standardize shipments.
Washington reports Lima says United States Argentina and Brazil will mediate between Peru and Ecuador to prevent hostilities. Peru and Ecuador expected to concur though no official acceptance yet. Chilean support for mediation has been received by the State Department.
Boston lawyers say a technicality in Coleman case sentencing may allow Charles W. Morse to gain freedom via a writ of habeas corpus. Morse, a banker, is serving a fifteen year term in Atlanta for bank crimes. Coleman’s sentence sparked the point about hard labor versus imprisonment.
Count De Lesseps crossed the English Channel in an airplane from Calais to Deal, covering over twenty one miles. He landed at Deal to a grand reception as crowds cheered the daring feat.
Queen Victoria of Spain delivered a male infant who was stillborn at 1 a.m. The body will be buried without ceremony in the Royal Pantheon of the Royal Escurial Monastery. King Alfonso is in London for King Edward’s funeral. This is the first stillbirth in the Spanish royal line.

He has no opposition and is expected to win without contest. The Brunswick solicitor also serves the new circuit until January first.
A powder separator at the Hamilton Power Company's Northfield works in British Columbia exploded with a roar heard for miles, instantly killing five workers and demolishing the plant.
President Taft will not travel to Atlantic City tomorrow to address the church and labor conference held by the Presbyterian General Assembly. Officials cite criticism of his frequent trips as the reason for changing plans.
Mrs. E. W. Hollingsworth, oldest daughter of the late Congressman Griggs and granddaughter of Hon. D. R. Stewart, died after several weeks illness in Dawson Georgia at age 23. She is survived by her husband a young daughter her mother one sister and one brother. Funeral services are set for tomorrow afternoon in Dawson.
James H. Creamer, formerly of the city, is jailed in Chattsworth Georgia after being mistaken for Ray Screven, wanted for murder in Illinois. He will likely be held until he can prove his identity, while his brother Er. C. Creamer wires efforts to confirm his whereabouts. The case hinges on clearing the mistaken identity and potential legal action.
A fine program arranged for Tuesday night at the Pastime theater designated Grand opera night. Soprano Cora Garner and Miss Brown Miss Butts and Catherine Stiles will sing from grand operas with the two latter in costume.
