General Harris Evaluates Brunswick as Ideal Training Camp Site

General Harris commander of the Georgia National Guard visited Brunswick inspecting the camp. He praised Brunswick as a good site for a thirty thousand camp and noted its suitability over Jasper. He discussed officer training rules and said guardsmen may be appointed without camp attendance. He lamented Georgia's volunteer recruitment and reflected on prospects for troops going to France.

Major Thomas I. Schley Dies at Schofield Barracks

Major Thomas I. Schley United States Army son of the late Rear Admiral Schley died Tuesday at Schofield Barracks Honolulu. He was commissioned from the signal corps in 1891 and served on the Mexican border and in the Philippines with General Merritt. He is survived by his wife, his mother, a sister and a brother.

Railroad foreman killed in moving cars accident near Lebaton

W. J. Holt aged 58, a track foreman for Henderson Lumber Co, died Wednesday when struck by a string of moving flat cars 12 miles from Lebaton. He leaves a wife and two daughters. The remains were taken to Tifton for interment. Holt belonged to Woodmen of the World.

Police Fire In Street Fight At War Protest Meeting

In Livingston Montana a street fight erupted during a meeting protesting entry into the war. Police opened fire as disorder grew. Andrew Howe was wounded and rushed to a hospital. Twenty five men were arrested, many said to belong to the Industrial Workers of the World.

Eugene C. Marlin longtime Brunswick business figure died at his Wolf Street home after surgery for a illness and meningitis. Funeral from First Baptist Church at 3:30 PM with Rev. O P Gilbert and Rev. D Watson Winn officiating. Interment in Palmetto Cemetery. Married to Deborah Stewart, three children survive him. He held positions at Georgia Hardware Company and previously at A B and A railroad. He was a Mason and a Knight of Pythias and esteemed by many locally.

Diver Williams Retrieves 3590 Pound Steel Sheet from River

Jacksonville diver Artley Williams drew a massive 24 by 8 foot steel sheet weighing 3590 pounds from the river near Mallory wharf. The sheet, valued at 300 dollars, had slipped from the steamer Santi about ten days earlier and was consigned to Schofield Iron Works of Macon.
