Knights Templars Hold Meeting in New Uniforms

Brunswick lodge number 691 will send four representatives to the Georgia Elks state meeting in Rome. Capt Charles Temple and H Kaufman left for Rome late last night, while W C Lemon and William Purvis depart today by rail to attend the opening exercises. The city planned entertainment for delegates and kept militia on duty amid lingering rumors of unrest.

Brunswick Club Edges Blackshear 4–0 For First Win

Brunswick's amateur baseball team defeated Blackshear 4 to 0 in a fast, error-light game led by Walker's strong eight to ten strikeout performance. The locals built a lead with two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth, then sealed the win with a ninth inning double Hopkins to Sauticht to Dixon. An umpire dispute briefly flared but did not alter the outcome.

Georgia reformers study a New York bill proposing a powerful public utilities commission with wide authority over franchises rates and operations. If similar legislation passes in June Georgia could see a comparable measure with governor appointed members and strict penalties for noncompliance.

Atlanta railroad to place large rolling stock order

The Atlanta Journal reports the Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic railroad will order 1 780 freight cars and 30 cabooses for Brunswick to Atlanta and Brunswick to Birmingham service. The $1 5 to $1 75 million order includes 1 000 coal cars and 500 flats, with delivery by October 1. Service between Brunswick and Birmingham expected by mid October.
