Gas White Way Might Be Used In Brunswick City

Brunswick eyes a gas white way to rival electric lighting as several brick and stone residences rise on Union and Prince streets. Albert Fendig and S S Rickett plan handsome new homes, with a gas light proposal backed by E D Brewer of Atlanta and local merchants urged to adopt lower gas rates from Mutual Light and Water.

Interesting golf contests at the Brunswick links

Thirty players competed for prizes in several events including an approaching and putting contest won by Eugenia Maxey, handicap match won by J W Simmons, driving contest by M Gowan, and clock golf by lady players. Auto collision injures none. Mathewson car damaged

An electric car collided with the Mathewson auto from the naval stores plant on L Street at Norwich. The Mathewson vehicle suffered heavy damage and one wheel bent, but the driver escaped serious injuries as the car veered into the streetcar.

Prizes Captured by Brunswick Students

The Brunswick delegation from Glynn High School attended the High School Association meeting in Valdosta and returned with numerous prizes. Miss Clara Briesenick won first in the girls essay contest and Wade Anderson took first in spelling. Brunswick carried the top honors, with many participants earning awards, more than any other district school.

Brunswick and Fernandina to Battle on Tuesday

The first baseball game of the season will be played Tuesday afternoon at the local grounds between Brunswick and Fernandina second teams. Brunswick’s squad will likely be their whole team this season, relying on several promising players and upcoming games. Fernandina is described as unusually fast, promising an interesting contest.

Dan Carey Dies Who Claimed First Civil War Shot

A Dalton Georgia report says Dan Carey former Charleston Cadet who boasted of firing the first shot of the Civil War died in Dalton. Carey claimed duty on Morris Island and fired the warning shot from the Star of the West guiding Fort Sumter events.

Cadet Haynesworth Leads First Star of the West Shot

Charleston records show Dan Carey was not in the cadet corps. Cadet G. T. Haynesworth fired the lanyard for the Star of the West cannon and the cadets also fired the first shot on Fort Sumter, per the records.

Augusta Ga May 4 Edward Brazelle a young sign painter who last December shot and killed Carl de Belle Huncan a 17 year old girl has been sentenced to hang on May 24 Brazelle killed the girl with a shotgun while she attended his sick wife It is said Brazelle was infatuated with the girl and she repulsed his advances The girl's body fell on the bed where Mrs Brazelle was lying helpless and ill Brazelle is said to have been drinking heavily at the time.

Large crowds visited the K Mott jewelry store for auction bargains and spirited bidding as prices remained low. Dr Mott plans to pack the stock and depart for Atlanta early next week while remaining stock will be sold at auction prices on Monday.

Young White Man Killed in Mt Pleasant Freight Accident

Atkinson Brown twenty two of this city was fatally injured when a Southern freight train at Mt Pleasant ran over him after he rushed to apply brakes. He died soon after reaching the hospital. Survived by his mother Mrs S H Brown six brothers and four sisters. Funeral Monday at the family home.
