Glynn County Plans Second Bond Election For Roads

The Glynn County commissioners meet next Tuesday to discuss a $75 000 bond issue and a possible second election. They note that while only a few voted against the measure last time, many did not vote at all, and they favor another election if needed. A reporter was told the issue would be raised at the meeting.

Young Brunswickian Becomes Pacific Steamship Chief Engineer

The Chicago Chronicle notes Brunswick native EB Raffo 26 earns the Pacific’s youngest chief engineer post on the Korea bound for Honolulu and the Orient. He rose from first assistant aboard the 18 000 ton liner after five years since launch, supervising 1560 crew with a 100 percent exam score and a salary around 4500 yearly. His father J S Raffo, a Brunswick resident, expresses pride in his son’s achievement.

Knights Templars Conclave Set in Atlanta May 8 9

The forty seventh conclave of the Knights Templars of Georgia will meet in Atlanta on May 8 and 9. Brunswick members are receiving the official program and many local Knights are expected to attend in grand style. Six ladies can secure minutes from Simon Island Cottage for cooking lessons and utensils, with details available at the office.

Capture of Henry Brown after double murder near Fernandina

News from Bladen reports the capture of Henry Brown a negro suspected in the Italia near Fernandina double murder of Thomas Johnson and his wife. The assailant reportedly shot the couple and fled before being chased by officers who finally secured him. Children described a copper colored one legged man matching Brown.

New City Wharf Under Construction At Gloucester Street

Work has begun on a new city wharf at the foot of Gloucester street to serve small country boats trading at the port. The old wharf is being torn down and the slip prepared while the street is opened. Capt Townsend Better is improving after injuries from a recent accident.

Conductor Wage Rise Across Atlantic Coast Line

An about ten percent wage increase for Atlantic Coast Line conductors both freight and passenger takes effect yesterday. The raise responds to a request by the general adjustments committee meeting in Wilmington. Salaries will be computed by mileage and time with a uniform increase of nineteen percent on the new schedule.

In the South Atlantic league yesterday Savannah defeated Columbia to stretch its win streak to three. Charleston beat Augusta to go four of five while Macon downed Jacksonville and Savannah posted a 2 to 6 score against Columbia.
