Letter to Fathers urges shared infant care duties

The Southeastern Sanitary association endorsed a letter urging fathers to share with mothers the care of infants. It emphasizes prenatal and postnatal support, breastfeeding, avoiding dangerous soothing syrups and pacifiers, proper milk substitutes if needed, fresh air and cleanliness, birth registration, and active involvement in improving conditions like housing, sanitation, and milk supply for healthier babies.

Medical Men From Four States Attend Health Meeting

The fourth annual Southeastern Sanitary Association opened in Brunswick at the Oglethorpe hotel park with doctors from Georgia North and South Carolina and Florida. Savannah welcomed a large Dixie highway commission party from Brunswick on March 23. Some 700 to 1,000 Savannah autos lined the streets to honor the visitors as guns fired salutes and whistles rang out. The party toured Savannah harbor aboard the revenue cutter Yana eraw and planned an early start for Macon the next morning.

Fire destroys Horton Grammar School and surrounding blocks

The blaze began near Eighth and Broad, sweeping Horton Grammar School on Ellis Street away. Heroic auto driver W T Elrod carried two girls from the Dyer building, making two trips to the fifth floor and suffering burns. The fire spread rapidly along Cotton Row to the Life building and the Western Union Telegraph site, destroying all blocks except the Broad Street sixth.

Fire Devastates Broad Street Block Destroying Brick Homes

Flames cut a swath of two to three weeks wide for eight blocks along Broad Street to East Boundary ending the city section. The fire jumped to the south side of Elbert Street and reached Greene Street. Many brick residences burned. a substantial brick building on Broad Street was leveled while a nearby wooden house escaped. The street railway, telephone and electric light companies suffered heavy losses and service was crippled.
