London March 4. The resignation of Governor Swettenham of Jamaica was accepted today. His action during a Kingston crisis involving Admiral Davis of the United States drew widespread condemnation in England. Swettenham wrote a letter to the admiral causing the fleet withdrawal.

Revenue officers slain in Fayetteville raid

A party of revenue officers and a group of negro distillers clashed near Fayetteville on March 4. Officers opened fire as the distillers exposed themselves, killing one officer instantly and mortally wounding two others.
