Savannah Judge awards 6500 salvage to Weems in steamship case

In Savannah, Judge Speer granted $6,500 salvage to the steamship Weems over the schooner Davenport. The Weems aided the Davenport off Frying Pan Shoals, towing her into deep water and port, after the Davenport sent distress signals in rough weather. The Baltimore and Carolina Steamship Company represented by Maj. Ernest Dart and Edward S. Elliott argued for salvage. Davenport's side was Garrard Gazan and Alfred H. Hayne.

Riflemen Leave Savannah for Washington Inauguration

The Brunswick Riflemen, a 42 man company, departed Sunday from Savannah to attend the inauguration. They rode the military special to Washington, scheduled to arrive late yesterday afternoon and return by noon tomorrow, with arrival back Thursday night. The captain stated he was unsure of all acceptances at that moment.
