Cattle Thieves Active in Glynn County

S D Lamb, a Glynn County farmer near Brunswick, reports six cattle stolen from his herd in the past month. Several neighbors have losses as well. A nearby Negro farmer near Freedman’s Rest says four head were taken. Authorities, including Sheriff Berry, will investigate if sunrise proves a remedy.

Death of Gabriel Baker Fisherman Where Bodies Found In Creek

An inquest into the death of Gabriel Preacher Baker, an elderly negro fisherman missing ten days, concluded with a verdict of death from an unknown cause. In New York on July 29 the Sant Brenner Association of the East staged a beefsteak eating contest. Frank B., Mayor of Avenue B, won with eight and three quarter beefsteaks. Three other competitors each consumed between five and eight pounds.

District 600 Fellows to Meet in Brunswick

The first division of the Odd Fellows of Georgia adjourned in Waycross after selecting Brunswick as the next meeting place. Delegates returned to Waycross last night. Attendance was the largest since the division’s founding and all lodges in the district were represented. Division Grand Master J. T. Strickland of Waycross will announce the Brunswick date.

Bond Committee Discusses Refunding City Bonds

The bond committee led by Mayor J K Hopkins, with vice chair I E Twitty, met to consider refunding bonds to avoid a new bill. Proposals include negotiating with bond holders, funding the sinking fund, and ensuring city borrowing for civic improvements while protecting the $65 000 of bonds issued in 1879 and the $300 000 outstanding.

Important Changes in Line Up of the Pilots

Two or three changes were made on the local baseball club last night. Pitcher Walker asked for and received his release, outfielder Collins was released, and Stewart, brother of the Ameri cas hurler, was signed as a right handed twinler. Franks, formerly of the Valdosta club, was signed to take Collins’ place in left field and will join at Cordele. Franks will play. Stewart may appear in the Cordele series. The temperance committee of the house referred the Hixon Searcy liquor shipment bill to a subcommittee with orders to report next session. The measure required proof of legality by the shipper for shipments over three gallons and by the state for shipments of three gallons or less.

Brunswick woman held in Fernandina murder case

Reports say Blong Gazway, a Brunswick resident, was killed as a Brunswick cook and rumored rival fought. The Brunswick woman, now confined in Fernandina, is charged with murder after allegedly pursuing the man and fatally stabbing him during the trip.
