The council weighs granting a fifty year lease on the city water front lot at Dartmouth Street to Mr R E Briesenick. He would invest heavily to build a mammoth boiler factory and hire many hands, contingent on extending the current lease. If rejected, the factory project may not proceed.
The Macon and Brunswick colored teams played a 17 inning game at Central City ballpark with Brunswick winning 8 to 7. The finish came when a hard hit ball over the center fielder’s head drove in the winning run after 17 innings of tied play. The Macon News noted the long game and strong local spectator interest, including many white attendees.
Mrs. Mary Pettigrew McWhorter of Camden county died yesterday morning at five o'clock in the city, heart trouble listed as the immediate cause. Born 1859 she lived most of her life here as Miss Mary Pettigrew and was married in 1885 to W H McWhorter of Satilla Bluff. The bereaved include her husband three sons her mother Mrs Alfred Green sister Mrs Charles Ward and four brothers. Funeral at St Marys today with Presbyterian ties noted and family urged not to mourn without hope.
The Elks excursion to St Simon last night drew large crowds with Brunswick Mandolin Club providing music. Dancing at the pavilion, a surf bath, and overall enjoyment made the event a delightful evening for many excursionists.
G W Johnson died on the 13th at the home of his son in law J H Grace in Fuke Georgia. He had lived in Brunswick for years where he was in business with A T Putnam and he was the father of Mrs Owens Johnson who resides in Atlanta.
A homing pigeon arrived in Cumming Georgia at noon. Local resident Guy Biden cared for it before releasing it from a high spot. The bird bore bands reading W M and 1728, and is believed to be from a Savannah release bound for Harrisburg Pennsylvania.
Passenger officials say June topped records for passenger business due to improved equipment on all roads. The upturn occurred in a usually dull season as trains attract more riders.
Judge Reagan presided as the Alabama Flint circuit court heard several cases. A verdict favored the Tatnalls in Langs trading as Lang v Tatnall. criminal docket included Johnson larceny guilty. Lofton Banks Collins burglary guilty with sentences. Taylor extortion and swindling not pressed. divorce granted to Ella Meredith versus Anderson. court adjourns after today’s session.
Tallahassee July 17 returns from most counties show Attorney General Lamar defeating Fred T Myers for Third District Congress. Judge W A Hocker appears set for the state supreme bench over Judge Wall. R H Burr and Jefferson B Browne may win railroad commissioner posts. Mallory Sparkmen and Davis face no opposition in their districts.
Bids for the Grand Opera House closed Wednesday with no bid accepted yet. Fleming & Waff are rumored to again manage, though confirmation is awaited. The prior managers faced losses but gained experience, and Mr. Aiken is expected to announce the new manager today.
Word from Br A C Blain reports Captain W E Sprague improving after being shot by his negro steward. Doctors expect he may be able to leave hospital in a few days as the ball causes no harm and should not require removal.

About two hundred damage suits have been filed against Coal Creek Company et al over the May 19 mine explosion that killed 200. Forty six suits are in Knox County with the rest in Anderson County. Claims seek from 1000 to 25000 dollars.
The Southern Nut Growers' convention will be held in Macon on October 6. The decision followed a committee meeting at the Brown house. Macon won over New Orleans, Valdosta, Orlando, Albany and others, with George Ketchum presenting Macon’s case. The event precedes the National Farmers' congress and will attract nut growers from southern states. The convention program committee includes G M Bacon, DeWitt, J F Wilson, Poulan, Herbert Waite, Valdosta, Norwood Robson, Atlanta, and George Ketchum, Macon.
Albany reports the Georgia Northern line nearly complete and to start trains within thirty days. Track reaches within three miles of the city and will connect with the B. & W. line to enter Albany. Only about fifty feet remain to finish the road. The Georgia Northern will open up rich agricultural and timber regions and is expected to bring great benefit to Albany.
Col Jacobi, Cumberland Island hotel manager, arrived in the city for important business. He reports a good crowd of guests and high satisfaction with the resort, and will return to the island tomorrow.
The News will publish ship notices at a rate of $1.50. It is declared the sole legal medium for such notices.
Washington officials report growing confidence in securing Greene and Gaynor from Canada. By framing appeals under treaty language on embezzled funds, they aim to show a prima facie case of receiving stolen money. If surrendered, Georgia courts must determine if conspiracy charges can proceed after abduction from Canada.
Fitzgerald base ball team now in Florida seeks a game or two with the Brunswick club. Club Manager Miller expects a challenge to come in a day or two.
The Asheville and Rutherfordton railway will be built with work starting immediately. George T. Danis of New York signs the contract, with about four years to complete, possibly half that time. The 40 mile line will run via Fairview from Rutherfordton into Asheville and then extend toward Tennessee, backed generally by Seaboard interests.
Authorities in Pottawattomie county probe the death of 14 year old Arthur Pelore near Shawnee. He reportedly was submerged in the Canadian river by companions attempting a so called water cure, filling his lungs and stomach with water and causing death days later.

The Rio Grande leaves for New York at 3 30 this afternoon. The Falcon arrived from the Satilla river and the tug Stella from Fernandina is at Briesnick's marine railway. President Roosevelt issued a proclamation freeing Cuban vessels and cargoes from certain duties on entry to American ports.

Loss nears ten thousand dollars with hopes to control within days.
In Blair Nebraska a 200 man railroad crew began laying tracks near midnight. Mayor Halter ordered them to stop, firemen sprayed water, revolvers appeared but citizens arrived to tear up tracks and scatter the workers, averting bloodshed.
New York July 17. Sheriff O Brien forms the third panel for a three month term by summoning 14 men whose combined wealth exceeds one billion dollars. Among those named are John B McDonald J Pierpont Morgan J D Rockefeller William Rockefeller Frederick W Vanderbilt William K Vanderbilt and John D Archbold.
