Georgia lawmakers consider free streetcar rides for police and firemen

The house special judiciary committee approved a measure allowing street railway firms to grant complimentary rides to policemen and firemen serving cities and municipalities in Georgia. The bill was introduced by McMahon of Clarke and Slade and Wohlwender of Muscogee.

Congress Still Handling Tariff

The house members of conference objected to the maximum and minimum feature of the tariff bill delaying adoption of most sections on the administration. A customs court of appeal was adopted and the salaries of five judges set at 10000 dollars instead of 7000 in the senate amendment. The drawback provision remains disputed and may cause longer debate.

Chicago July 14 The state rested today in the Gingles case of Ella Gingles an Irish lacemaker charged with larceny. It is expected the defense will finish its case by tomorrow night. Today’s witnesses were unfavorable to the defense saying Gingles was not as innocent as she claimed.
