Statehouse article reports N Emanuel, Brunswick mayor, would not seek an active campaign but would accept the office if taxpayers request a second term. He cites two years as mayor and two in the county legislature, says voters know his efficacy, regrets early campaigning, and urges no unnecessary campaign in the looming election.
The first half of Brunswick city taxes for 1902 is due by July 31 under the tax ordinance. If unpaid, execution will be issued for the full amount. Taxpayers are advised to call early to avoid delays at month’s end. GEO. H. SMITH, City Treasurer.
In Rome on July 8 an old woman, Anna Moroni, near 150, told the pope she once carried Gioacchin o Pecci as a baby at Velletri. The pontiff showed keen interest, recalling many incidents from his own childhood as he spoke with her.
The Rome fire department hook and ladder company traveled through the city yesterday on their way to Cumberland for a ten day stay. A large crowd followed the party. Mr. T. O. Hand led the group with Ticket Agent Latimer in charge.
Several lodges of the Knights of Pythias Cas tle Hall Association gather Wednesday to finalize plans for an upcoming excursion. Member lodges Syracus Ocmulgee Central City and M. R. Rogers Lodge will join friends. Brunswick is likely if invited.

The group aims to secure garnishment of clerks and laborers’ wages and restrict wholesale grocers from selling directly to families.

Crespo resigned the under secretary post to become Cuba’s first diplomatic representative and will push closer trade links and Mexican leaf tobacco entry to Cuba for Havana manufacturers.
Washington July 8 The man with political backing, J. S. Clarkson, recently chosen by President Roosevelt as surveyor of the port of New York, has been in Washington a week consulting with Postmaster General Payne and others close to the president. He is slated to play a key role in capturing delegates for the 1904 campaign, especially in the South, with broad responsibilities in other regions.
County officers from across Georgia gather in Atlanta for a convention seen as pivotal for unifying two existing groups. Expected attendance ranges between 700 and 800, with a likely consolidation into the County Officers' Association of Georgia. Judge John R. Wilkinson invites all ordinaries to attend.

The Macon team lost 9 to 0 to Brunswick yesterday. Macon sent home three new men who will join today’s game. The visiting manager claims the umpiring was rotten and that the umpire robbed them of the game. A larger crowd is expected for today’s matchup at the park.
Seattle residents reported Harry Tracy the escaped killer seen this afternoon near Benton as a posse pursued him.
A premature dynamite explosion at a Duquesne blast furnace killed one miner and injured four others this afternoon. All victims were miners.
The Oglethorpe company faces a possible cancellation of its San Francisco trip unless four more members are found. A business meeting will decide the issue this evening, with the drill entry expected to serve as strong Brunswick and Georgia advertising.
