Congress debates printing of Congressional Record and new commerce department

Senator Bacon of Georgia proposed printing a special Congressional Record edition for public sale at 2 for long sessions and 1 for short sessions to inform citizens. The Senate adopted the resolution as the commerce department bill moved forward, keeping the census bureau in the new department and naming it Department of Commerce and Labor. Separately Brunswick copper works face higher license fees, from 10 to 50 annually, affecting local turpentine operators and workers.

Judge Bennet dismissed the suit filed last fall by Waycross Air Line against Southern Pine for $40,000 damages over timber land flows. The injunction was denied, and the case was dismissed, with appeal expected to reach the supreme court. Waycross Air Line, now Atlantic & Birmingham, was represented by Judge Sweat.
