Miller Arrives to Start A B and A Contract Work

W L Miller of Boston, a leading marine contractor, arrived to begin the A B & A timber basin project. Eight men arrive today, 25 more in two weeks, and six months are needed to complete the gigantic contract by July 20.

Brunswick Prepares for Timber Handling Expansion

The Southern ports project will add terminals for raft and boon timber at the A., B. & A. lines, enabling easy handling of inland timber. Mr. Miller plans to return to Boston on Thursday then move with his family to Brunswick to oversee the completion of the major work.

A house owned by Mrs. William Baker is being moved from its Halifax square lot purchased by Mr. C. Downing to a new site beside the Ralston home on Egmon Street. The moved house will be repaired and improved as a desirable residence. A handsome new home will rise on the Halifax square lot by Mr. and Mrs. Miller Nightingale.

Brunswick must build more homes for ship officers

Brunswick faces a housing shortage as officers of the Brunswick Steamship Company plan to relocate their families to the city. Commercial Agent Ligeour reports nearly all officers seek accommodations, with about thirty families ready to move. Although new houses are under construction they are already spoken for, creating a need to build at least two hundred more homes within two months to house incoming crews.

Opening Day in the City Bruns wick Terminal Visit

President H. M. Atkinson of A B and A and C L Dimon of the Brunswick Steamship Company arrived in the city by private car to review progress on South End terminals and to prepare for a Cuba voyage aboard the Brunswick. They noted labor shortages and material delays but praised improvements and the Brunswick's terminal outlook. Dimon plans a return to New York tonight after a personal conference with Atkinson.

Lodge Proposal Defeated in Senate Clash on Troop Dismissal

Washington January 7 Senator Lodge's bid to have the senate endorse the president's dismissal of the negro troops failed in the first senate skirmish. Lodge withdrew the amendment after declaring the president acted within authority. At Thurlow's today fish market offers fresh halibut Spanish mackerel and oysters.
