Near beer tax dispute confounds state officials
Avlanta December 31. Officials state no state officer can demand ordinary to collect the near beer license tax under the Wise act. The ordinary prints licenses, handles money, and forwards funds with no commission or direct instruction. The governor and attorney general may be involved if action is pursued, but current law grants no authority to compel collection. The public schools would be affected if denoted as a tax.

Youth Dies Loading Lumber Aboard Bee Line Steamer Satilla
Mack Gillon an 18 to 20 year old Negro worker drowned after a lumber piece struck him on the Bee Line steamer Satilla while he helped shift cargo on the deck. His body surfaced half an hour later. life could not be saved. He moved from Darien to Brunswick years ago and will be interred in Darien. The accident was not charged to any individual.
