Butler Pennsylvania January 31 The Mount Chestnut post master reports a sheriff posse cornered the Biddles and a fierce battle followed. John Biddie died instantly Edward Biddie died from wounds Mrs Soffee shot herself to avoid capture and died Deputy Watson was injured but to recover Bodies to be taken to Pittsburg tomorrow

Rev Clement G Bradley to be ordained at St Mark's

Rev Clement G Bradley of St Jude's church will be ordained to the priesthood at St Mark's Sunday 11 o'clock in a large ceremony. Bishop Kinloch Nelson will conduct the examination and ordination with other clergy present. Music by St Mark's choir and the event draws a large Brunswick congregation.

Lutheran Services At Riflemen Armory Draw Large Attendance

The Lutheran congregation held morning and evening services at the Riflemen's armory last Sunday. Attendees expressed pleasure and were impressed by the sermons. The city’s Lutherans extend their thanks to the Riflemen for use of the hall and support.

Jose Wade and B H Dalton were hanged for the murder of James B Morrow in Portland. Wade declared he was unhappy before the execution. Dalton, a Georgia-born man, faced the noose for the crime. Fire consumed Jeff Perrys stable on E street lane last night total loss with two horses and carriage.

The Pretty Gas Stove Guessing Contest

A gas range on display at the Gas Co store in Newcastle Street ran a guessing contest ending February 1. Mrs. R. E. Guy guessed 4300 peas, closest to the actual 4294, with committee members Mrs. John R. Cook Mrs. M. Elkan and Miss Hattie Bingham tallying. The display room will close soon and stock moves to the company office for business.

Purim Ball to Feature at Local Fair Ends

The Purim ball on February 11 will close the fair and is expected to be the most interesting event of the day. Many costumes have already been prepared and the evening promises a glorious affair. The concert is also noted as interesting and details about helpers will be published later.

Taft testifies on Philippine governance before Senate panel

Washington January 31 A Senate Philippines investigating committee opened its hearings with Civil Governor W H Taft as the first witness. Taft described 34 civil provinces and the Moros' generally friendly stance, outlining provincial governance structures and the practice of appointing American officials where local factions are strong. He noted aims to have natives in governor roles where possible and that appointments are temporary with elections planned next month.
