Two huge whales were found on St Simon Beach yesterday morning near the new hotel. The larger measured forty feet, the smaller fourteen feet, both in good condition. they were likely killed Thursday night and washed ashore together. Locals view the carcasses as a rare sight amid scarce whales in these waters and anticipate selling the valuable skin and oil.
Washington reports during the six year period ending January 7 1910 the national population rose about 11 percent while the insane population grew 25 percent. Census canvassings in 372 institutions show 187 454 insane patients an increase of 37 303 since 1904 Massachusetts tops states with 344 6 insane per 100 000 followed by New York at 343 1 per 100 000.
Admiral Dewey, head of the general naval board, urges four new battleships annually to assure peace. Congress may cut the number to two. He says the ships are needed to replace aging vessels Oregon Indiana and Massachusetts, over twenty years old.

L. M. Sandlin of Wilmington was executed in the North Carolina electric chair after being convicted of murdering his wife. He shot her three times after she refused to live with him again. He declared that the jury court and governor would face God for the murder. He was the second white man electrocuted in the state.
A handicap medal event is scheduled for Monday afternoon at the local links. It will be the first medal play in two or three months, with many members expected to participate and the same handicaps as the last medal run in effect.
In La Dec 29 a mob lynched an effigy labeled Hard Times after a parade with firecrackers. The rope and noose were placed about the effigy’s neck, then the figure was moved onto a telegraph pole before life returned to normal.
Sun Yat Sen is elected president of the Chinese republic by delegates in Nanking. He vows to secure peace and stability, seeking to withdraw imperial troops and extend the armistice. The United States will not recognize the new republic yet but will protect Americans and property and aid restoration of peace.
Russian activity at Urga Mongolia is blamed by Sui governors of Moli a and Asian military consul for pursuing a policy to keep Mongolia as a buffer state and limit Japanese expansion beyond Mukden. General Horvath denies hidden aims while admitting Russia seeks a stable buffer in the region.

Three sleeping men were burned to death when a pool room and boarding house in Daisy Town near California, Pennsylvania, burned early today. The blaze destroyed the mining settlement structure, trapping the occupants as flames swept through. The victims were unidentified at report time.
Persian forces engage Russians in Teheran amid street fighting that lasts nine days. Banks and European merchants prepare to reopen as casualties are disputed and foreign residents face provisions shortages. The Russian occupation of the city is declared complete with clashes focused near the Russian consulate and the Ark.
St. Petersburg reports the Russian government does not plan to send any further troops to Persia. The decision appears to end military redeployment amid ongoing international concerns and colonial interests in the region.
London December 29 The British government plans to boost the number of Indian troops stationed in Southern Persia to guard British consulates and trade routes. It stresses no intent to interfere with Persian authority beyond this security role.
The steamship Californian, arrived last Sunday, will sail tomorrow for Liverpool with a cargo of 16 000 bales loaded by F D M Strachan Co. This is one of the largest cargoes carried exclusively from this port this season and the loading was done in record time.
Stanley Stanford, lessee of the Oglethorpe hotel, secured a twenty year lease for a grand new hotel and Rathskeller at Newark Junction, the central business corner. The Elston Park hotel in Jamaica Bay, Long Island, is also leased by Stanford.
