Heavy rainfall did not deter a noisy crowd in Brunswick last night from 6 pm to after midnight. Police, aided by extra officers, kept order while many fireworks violations occurred in the business district. No serious injuries or fights were reported, and Mayor Rae urged leniency for minor offenses with warnings rather than arrests.
Chicago police say 83 year old William R. Ely and a younger accomplice attempted an Englewood real estate office hold up. Ely drew a revolver on clerk L. S. Jamieson, but the older man wrestled the gun away from him and was overpowered by Jamieson as the accomplice fled. Ely was taken into custody.
London Dec 23 Physicians caring for Sir Charles Tupper once Canada’s prime minister report his bronchitis remains serious at Bexly Heath Kent. A slight improvement yesterday gave way to a worse condition in today’s update.
The Georgia Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Episcopal church in a dispute over land in Habersham Park. Executor F H Huger contested after a deed by Mrs Fannie E Habersham stated a church would be built in memory of her husband John Habersham. The Glynn Superior Court had directed verdict for the church, and the high court sustained that ruling.
In Harbin, Manchuria a band of Chinese brigands attacked an imperial convoy bound for Kirin and seized $850,000 in bullion. The surge in brigandry follows political disturbances and desertions from the army. Murders occur on highroads as brigands raid settlements and loot stores.
New York reports a money famine on the eve of Christmas as the sub treasury exhausts supply of crisp unused bills and coin. Banks face limited large-amount access while individuals can still exchange small sums for torn or soiled notes.
P. R. Sullins an insurance agent was served with divorce papers and a ne exeat regno while returning home with toys for his child. Carrie A. Sullins seeks alimony amid alleged cruel treatment in a petition filed in superior court. Bond set at 500 dollars. he is to answer at the next session. The couple married in 1908 and have endured multiple separations. Judge D. W. Krauss represents the wife. Whitfield & Dart defend Sullins.
Reports from Pekin dated December 23 indicate government circles doubt the Shanghai peace conference will succeed. Rebels demand a republic before talks and 25 000 men are assembling for battle as revolutionaries plan to move north via Pu Kow, which they hold.

Augusta Georgia December 23 The Savannah river level at Augusta noon today stood at 30 feet rising at about two inches per hour Forecaster Emigh expects crest between midnight and 6 p m Sunday with a maximum not exceeding 32 feet Water entering the city via sewers was blocked by gates The river is not causing city damage and is falling elsewhere including the Ocmulgee at Macon where flood stage has not been reached
At about 1.30am a shooter fired a full load of bird shot at The News office from 25 to 30 feet away. The plate glass shattered as shot dropped inside. the managing editor narrowly avoided injury. Police were alerted but the suspect fled. It is unclear whether the shot was intentional or accidental.
Dispatch from Tabriz reports sharp fighting near the Aji-Chai river by Lake Uremia today. A detachment of Russian Cossacks guards government buildings at Tabriz and the approach road, with few casualties among the guard at the Russian consulate.

Henderson Kentucky December 23. Coroner opens inquiry into the Royster family poisoning at Robards as Sheriff nets Phillip Burs a former suitor of a Royster sister. Two victims dead Henry Royster 18 and a black cook. Thomas Royster and Lorena Royster remain critically ill but expected to recover.
Entombed miners Joseph Reed and Thomas Levan of the packet colliery Lehigh Valley Coal company were rescued uninjured at dawn after a cave-in last night. A sea of rock and refuse trapped them, but crews worked in relays at high speed to reach them.

Five men were injured when a large scaffold collapsed inside a turpentine tank at the Southeastern Tarryan Naval Stores plant. R W Amerson is reportedly seriously hurt with possible internal injuries. others suffered bruises but no broken bones. The scaffold may have failed due to insecure fastening.
Police search for a slayer after Bridget Pritchard an 18 year old girl is stabbed to death on West Glenwood avenue bridge. She died minutes after walking to her aunt Mrs. Thomas Pritchard with a knife handle found at the scene. Police note no robbery motive and trace an Italian attacker per her dying statement.
Eighteen inmates at the city jail petitioned Mayor Butts for a Christmas holiday and were released at noon Saturday with orders to return Tuesday morning. Cooks among the prisoners joined the group freed early so they could observe the holiday period. The mayor hopes the men will rejoin duty on Tuesday and may issue a further lecture if any trouble arises.
