Labor agent defrauds Brunswick laborers in New Jersey scheme

A traveling labor agent from New Jersey allegedly collected 11 to 16 dollars from about one hundred local workers here and vanished as their train left Brunswick. Without tickets or money, most workers were forced to return home, while many had mortgaged assets to cover the so called Northward wages. Officials fear catching the con artist, and residents vow tougher reception to any future recruiters.

Revenue man busy collecting Uncle Sam taxes

Deputy revenue collector E. C. Pierce arrived in the city and pressed delinquents to settle back taxes with vigor. Most paid up on the spot, while a few were out of town and will receive notices urging payment by telegraph and rapid transit of funds.

At 2 30 this morning a forty mile gale struck the city with heavy rain and widespread damage. The cyclone moved in under three minutes catching many unprepared and causing likely loss or serious harm to harbor boats and vessels along the harbor and beyond Brunswick.
