Dr H C Hutchens assistant state veterinarian praises Brunswick meat markets as best in state after inspection talks with Public Health Officer Abercrombie. A new rigid inspection order takes effect October 1 requiring all meat to be brought to the city jail for stamping and approval under the city ordinance.
Sixteen alien fishermen, each bonded at 100 dollars, were reported to be fishing for prawns again with no new arrest steps taken. The issue centers on Georgia waters fishing by non citizens, linked to recently established state boundaries and enforcement guidelines.
French made progress near Thiaumont on the Verdun front last night and Germans were repulsed at Fleury and Vaux. Romanian mobilization is ordered as Rumanian forces concentrate near the Russian frontier and on the Hungarian border amid reports of fighting with Teutons.
Glynn County plans to use convicts for street work in Brunswick this week after a county commission statement. Chairman C. D. Ogg said the impact of the new state law on convict allocations is unclear. Roads have been measured and will be forwarded to authorities once requested.
A telephone message announced the death of Mrs B Padrosa who died in Savannah yesterday afternoon after a serious illness and operation. Father Reis will officiate at Palmetto cemetery.

Dunn calls the gathering and asks all farmers to attend. Plans for a fall crop and what to plant will be discussed.
In a three thousand word address to Congress, President Wilson pleads for authority to draft managers and workers for government operation if needed, to expand the commerce commission and to study an eight hour day, while railroads and unions refuse mediation and prepare for a national strike set for Sept 4 1916. Direct negotiations through Wilson end as executives reject eight hour proposals and insist arbitration. The strike notice to four unions declares a walkout effective September 4 at 7 a.m. with instructions to inform all members promptly.
Hon R L J Smith of Commerce spoke to a sizable audience at City Hall in support of Dr L G Hardman for governor. He praised Hardman as a productive business leader and devout church member, noted his public service, and contrasted rivals while urging support. Smith departed for Darien to continue campaigning.
News from Patterson reports one of the twin babies of Mr and Mrs B V Walker died during the visit and the other twin is seriously ill. City residents express deep sympathy for the bereaved family.
Simon Lake, inventor of a new salvage submarine, seeks information on maritime disasters of the last decade from locals. Waterfronts expect he may bring the device to the coast to salvage sunken coal cargoes, citing Captain Kidd treasure rumors and recent wrecks. The craft travels the sea floor with a surface vessel guiding it, can suck up 500 tons of coal per hour, and aims for completion in about two months.

Eight Black men returning from Fernandina were arrested late Monday night, brought before Mayor Hopkins, and sent to the higher court on bonds. They were found in possession of nine quarts and ninety pints of liquor. Arresting officers named include Goodbread Russell Harvey and Amos.
The Glynn County Board of Education and residents consider delaying the September 18 opening amid concerns over infantile paralysis. A meeting called by Mrs. W C Bourne of the Parent-Teachers Association will gather next Tuesday at 4 20 p m in city hall with board members invited to discuss and possibly file a petition to postpone opening. The board meets the next day to review the request and potential timing.
A Glynn county Democratic committee was appointed by the National Democratic committee to raise funds in Brunswick and Glynn county for President Wilson’s re election. The group will meet soon to plan fund raising and may implement a dollar donation plan asking each Democrat to contribute one dollar. Members include F. E. B. Twitty as chairman, J. E. B. duBignon, L. R. Akin, N. Emanuel, W. R. Townsend and others.
