Washington reports that railroad workers handed an ultimatum to railroads and President Wilson demanding an eight hour day by a firm deadline. Dr Gilbert Likely to Be Called as Brunswick Pastor

Dr O C Gilbert of Augusta a noted divine is expected to become the Brunswick First Baptist pastor. The deacons recommended calling him and Col F E Twitty said a Sunday meeting will consider the action. Dr Gilbert impressed the congregation when he preached recently and has roots in Rome and Augusta. Dr A C Cree of Atlanta will preach next Sunday morning.

Hon W W King of Tarboro visits and expresses optimism in his bid for the state senate from this district. He expects Camden county voters to nominate him on September 11, with S C Townsend and Jack Lyles opposing. A large gathering is planned next Saturday bringing gubernatorial candidates and Camden contenders to the meeting.

Mrs J J French Dies After Long Illness

Mrs J J French died Sunday at 2 p m at 2006 Norwich street after a long illness. Wife of the rector of St Jude s church she was known in Brunswick and had lived here six years after moving from Waycross. Her remains were taken to Frederica for funeral and interment conducted by Rev R E B Boykin of St Mark s church.

City Council Concludes Short Regular Session

City council met in regular session with Mayor Hopkins and Aldermen Cook Dart Jones Smith McKinnon Leybourne present. Two petitions were read. nuisance complaint at 1900 Norwich street and a tree-cutting permit on the west side of Norwich street were referred to committees. Alderman Cook’s resolution asked Mutual Light and Water about old motors after the new electric system. parks and cemetery committee seeks about twenty acres for cemetery property. A Finance committee resolution authorized a 10 000 borrowing, and accounts were paid before adjournment.

Gasoline Prices Expected to Drop Further This Week

Reports from informed sources indicate gasoline will fall again over the next three to four days. The current price is about 22 cents per gallon, and a drop to 20 cents is anticipated before week’s end.

Thief With Good Taste Strikes Union Street Pantry

A thief entered R R Hopkins residence on Union street late Saturday night or early Sunday morning and stole the pantry supplies. A cake was taken and all edible items disappeared while some silver was left behind. The incident raises questions about motive and whether the culprit sought food or had a plan to prepare meals.

Aliens Arrested in Georgia Shrimp Fishing Test Case

Sixteen aliens were arrested near Brunswick by Fish Inspector Owens and Game Warden Bunkley for shrimp fishing under state law. They were bound over on $100 bonds, with Glynn Canning President Abrams standing surety, amid disputes over enforcement of Sec. 9 of the fish and game laws.
