Luther Pridgen Dies On His Wedding Day

Luther M Pridgen age 22 died in Waycross after a two week illness. Engagement to Miss Betty Newman of Brunswick had been announced. wedding occurred Thursday, she was at his bedside. Funeral services were held yesterday in Waycross.

Atlanta man tries to kill his wife

Jesse Pinion a glass worker aged about 26 is held at police headquarters without bond after shooting his wife three times on a neighbor’s porch last night. She lies at Grady Hospital in critical condition with two bullets in the abdomen. Pinion and his wife had been separated weeks and she feared for her life. he was arrested twice recently for drunkenness.

March of Miners Halted in West Virginia Protest

Armed miners marching from Marmet to Mingo coal fields halted yesterday after UMWA President Keeney urged the remainder to return home. He cited War Department pressure and possible federal action if the march continued toward Logan County and into the coal fields.

Negro accomplice accuses Carter of killing sheriff

Savannah Ga Aug. 26 Beh Axon a negro charged with Mage Carter admits moonshine ties and accuses Carter of fatally shooting Sheriff John W. Robertson of Pierce County in a swamp ambush after a daytime liquor raid. Both men are jailed in Chatham for safety.

Explosives Cause Train Wreck Near Cordele

Cordele August 26 Atlanta Birmingham Atlantic freight train No. 93 derailed five miles east after striking a charge of heavy explosives set by alleged wreckers. A negro brakeman was injured. Seventy cattle in four stock cars were killed and nine freight cars demolished as officials investigate the cause.

Playground Picnic Delights Brunswick Children at Island View

Telegraphic notice reports Dock Nix, Brunswick native and brother of Clyde Nix, died at Fort Leavenworth Army Hospital. His body likely to be sent to Winokur, Fife for burial. parents presently reside there. Brunswick friends extend sympathy.

City of Atlanta Goes Aground Off Boston

The steamship City of Atlanta, inbound from Savannah with passengers and freight, ran aground on Castle Island in Boston's inner harbor. Thirteen passengers were transferred to tugs and landed after a few hours. The steamer struck a ledge in fog near high water and rested high on the island as the tide receded. damage status was not known.

Export rates on steel reduced by Interstate Commerce Commission

Washington, Aug. 26. The Interstate Commerce Commission authorized railroads in the Mississippi Valley to set export rates on iron and steel products four to twenty five percent lower than existing rates. Current rates apply to both domestic and export traffic. The move, urged by iron and steel industries, aims to improve competition with foreign markets and is expected to boost export tonnage soon.
