Col J Randall Walker of Lowndes County will succeed W G Brantley after a state primary. Charlton county finally gave Walker Brooks and Charlton, yielding a likely popular majority between 1200 and 1500. The Eleventh district convention in Valdosta on August 31 will formalize Walker’s nomination.

Funeral for President Noyes Set for Saturday

Arrangements were completed for the funeral of Thomas C. Noyes president of the Washington American League club and news manager of the Washington Star who died of pneumonia. W M Oliff of Charlton county wins the Fourth senatorial district seat after defeating two opponents in Wednesday's primary. Under rotation Charlton provides the nomination with Glynn and Camden not voting. Oliff, editor of the Charlton County Herald, is a well known local figure and won by a safe majority.

Capmakers Strike Averted In Gotham

In New York on August 22 the general capmakers strike was averted after manufacturers' association granted employees demands. Workers secured a Saturday half holiday year round sewing machines from employers and paid for major holidays including New Year Washington's Birthday Decoration Day Fourth of July Election Day Thanksgiving and Christmas. Settlement to take effect October 1 affecting about 2,500 men in this and other cities.

Surprise homecoming ends in shock for Crim family

Edward Crim, 19, a Valparaiso student from Moundsville Ohio? visits Indiana for vacation and returns to find his mother, Mrs. Sarah C. Joiner, dead in a coffin. He clings to a secret entrance and faints on his mother’s lawn, then remains in serious condition from the shock.

Cincinnati Wins Next Moose Convention Site

Cincinnati was chosen as the 1913 meeting place of the Loyal Order of Moose by the annual convention, defeating Mobile Dallas New Orleans Winnipeg Toronto Milwaukee and Philadelphia on the second ballot. Tributes were paid to founder Dr John Wilson of Louisville who organized lodges and wrote the ritual with Mrs S E Tyler to receive $500 a month from the supreme lodge.

Americans killed in Leon Nicaraguan massacre reviewed

Two Americans Harvey Dodd of Kosciusko Mississippi and another named Phillips were killed during the rebel massacre of 500 Nicaraguan government troops at Leon on August 19. US officials say Dodd and Phillips were wounded, sought hospital aid, then slain after defeat.

Dodd's Father Notified of Son's Death in Nicaragua

Harvey Dodd of Kosciusko Mississippi learned by long distance call that his son Harvey Dodd was killed in the Leon massacre on August 19 in Nicaragua. The young man, about 35, roamed after leaving Mississippi, last sending a Panama mailed letter saying he would go to Nicaragua or Colombia. The father placed notices in Central and South American papers urging his son's return. The son was an expert stenographer and had been admitted to the practice of law.

City to Buy Waterfront Property for Harbor Aid

Brunswick plans to acquire wharf property to qualify for federal harbor appropriations.
