Public Sale Of Government Food Stocks In Brunswick this week

Government stores in Atlanta and major warehouses will be opened to the public Monday through Wednesday. The sale lists 2600 pounds of bacon 4900 pounds of flour 13000 cans of baked beans and many other items with prices set for post office customers. Purchasers must pay cash and place orders at the Brunswick post office with the postmaster or assistant postmaster. The Brunswick city treasury receives a $150000 paving bond payment from Continental Trust Company with funds held at National Bank of Brunswick.

Oates Seeks Brunswick Start for Atlantic Lithic

J M Oates of the Atlantic Lithic Company in Richmond says his firm will begin city contracts in Brunswick as soon as state approval and rail access allow. He notes nearby Daytona operations are active with equipment en route, and machinery for Brunswick remains in Richmond awaiting railroad readiness. He cannot specify a definite start date.

Morgan D Wade of this city has become a leading artesian well contractor in the south. Mrs. Lawrence Dies in Marietta Death brings Brunswick ties to end

Mrs. Robert de Treville Lawrence died at her Marietta home after a long illness. She leaves four sons including Alex Lawrence of Savannah and Samuel Lawrence of Raleigh, plus sisters Mrs. Erwin and Mrs. Blanton and several brothers in Atlanta and Camden. Funeral plans not announced. burial will be in Marietta.

Oil Men In Auto Crash In City Junction

R H Rhoden chief of night police at Atlantic Refining and D J Rhea superintendent of watchmen were overturned in an automobile at the Richmond and G streets junction while returning from the refinery to catch a Southern railroad train for Jesup. Rhoden escaped with slight injuries while Rhea, cut by glass and badly bruised, was taken out with difficulty. The crash involved a trolley car and the car’s front was demolished. Both men blamed the auto driver for braking on the track and jumping for safety. Rhea could walk shortly after but bled from a hand wound. Rhea has worked five months for Atlantic Refining and previously seven months at the picric acid plant. Rhoden was formerly a city police member.

Women activists push for voting rights amid fee dispute

In Atlanta on August 16 the city democratic executive committee passed resolutions denouncing leaders of the women’s committee who returned 3,782 in reinstatement fees. The enfranchisement resolution remains on the agenda despite the dispute over collected funds.

Pistol Toter in City Court

After a Friday night shooting on Eilis street two mounted officers tackled a man named Quincey Hines who drew an old Colt revolver on Policeman Williams. The weapon failed to fire during the struggle and Hines, subdued with help from Policeman J. H. McGill, was brought before the city court yesterday morning.

More Ships Due Here From Liverpool Coast

The S S Naperian arrived from Liverpool with cargo including cotton for foreign markets. The S S Edgewood is departing with 18 601 bales of compressed cotton, possibly the heaviest load this season. Also arriving is the S S Youngstown and the S S Akaka from Demerara and British Guiana, while the S S Keshnift sails from Jacksonville for game parties. Sailors from the English fleet fill the streets, many youths and apprentices, as crowds observe ship traffic and city commerce.

Pershing to Visit Rome After Paris Departure

General Pershing will leave Paris tonight for a visit to Rome and the Italian battlefields, arriving Monday. He will be entertained at the Carlton by King Victor Emmanuel at noon. Military circles in Rome discuss responsibility for Italy's defeat at Cagretto, blaming General Cadorna and factors like low morale, mood, and lack of reserves.
