Quarter Million Increase in Glynn County Taxable Values

Tax Receiver Dubberly completed Glynn county tax returns for 1912 and sent them to the state comptroller. The report shows a gain of about 239 482 dollars in taxable values, a strong year driven by many small buildings and improvements rather than a single large enterprise. Glynn is among the first counties to forward its figures to Atlanta.

Funeral for G. W. Wright Today at 10

The funeral for the late G. W. Wright will be held today at 10 oclock from P. W. Flemings residence at the corner of Egmont and George streets. Pallbearers include W. R. Townsend W. H. Berrie W. H Wood E. L. Stephens Larned Pitcher H. A. Bache. The Elks lodge will conduct the service. burial is at Palmetto Cemetery. Wright died after a fall Friday night attributed to apoplexy by attending physicians.

Exmination Shows her Death Was by Drowning

Catskill New York August 3 the report of physicians who performed an autopsy on the body of Miss Dorcas Snodgrass of Mount Vernon give the cause of death as drowning The condition of the stomach showed that she had not eaten fourteen hours before her death The watch carried by Miss Snodgrass established the time of her death at 430 oclock in the morning bearing out the theory that Miss Snodgrass arrived here on the liner Clermont the morning after her disappearance and threw herself into the creek

Senate Repeal of Canadian Reciprocity Dropped

In yesterday's Senate session the repeal of Canadian reciprocity was dropped from the metal bill. The elections committee prepared a new campaign contributions bill. The post office appropriation bill continued under consideration. In the House the cotton tariff bill passed the house and was referred to the finance committee. The Stanley steel report debate day was not set. Representative Akin's charges against Secretary Wilson were dropped by the agricultural committee.

Major Dart Praises Wayne Visit in Brunswick Circuit

Maj. R. E. Dart, candidate for solicitor general of the Brunswick circuit, spent a day in Jesup meeting voters and touting his candidacy. He noted strong local interest at a Walker Parker debate and predicted a large vote across Wayne county, aiming for a broad campaign before the August 21 primary.

House Agrees to Wool Tariff Revision Bill

Washington August 3 The house approved the conference report on the wool tariff revision bill by 160 to 62. Only one Democrat Rushbrook of Ohio voted against adoption, while twenty four Republicans joined Democrats in favor. The measure now goes to the president.

Night sessions of the bribery trial of Clarence S. Darrow will likely extend into the night to finish next week. Today’s two hour session marked the first Saturday session in over a month as Judge Hutton hopes an additional week will close the trial.

Aviator Falls 200 Feet, Unharmed In Flight

William Spear a 19 year old pupil from New Orleans at the Mineola aviation school fell 200 feet when his engine failed. He released the controls and the craft plunged but he escaped without injury.

Soldiers Exchange Shots Across Rio Grande Near El Paso

About fifty shots were fired between U S soldiers and unidentified Mexicans near the El Paso foundry in East El Paso. No injuries reported. several houses were struck. A posse searched the riverbed, but no assailants were found. Officials minimized the incident while investigating possible smuggling of ammunition.

Senate Recedes From Canadian Steel Reciprocity Change

In a 33 to 28 vote the Senate receded from its amendment repealing Canadian reciprocity in the steel bill. The measure now carries to the President for swift executive action, with supporters including Bristow Clapp Crawford La Follette Poindexter and Works and opposition led by Simmons and Root.

Congress may adjourn if Archbald case not set for trial

Washington leaders said congress could adjourn within a week or ten days if the Archbald impeachment case is not scheduled for immediate trial. Democratic Leader Underwood encouraged 11 o'clock sessions in the house as the senate shifts its meeting hour to 10.

Gulfport Mississippi August 3 A local man Frank Edwards sues policeman W Doroch for $5000 claiming a slap in the face was given when Edwards did not promptly move on after an order. The suit names Doroch as the alleged assailant and seeks damages.

Washington August 3. Formal pleadings in the impeachment trial of Judge Robert W Archbald of the Commerce Court were closed when his counsel notified the house managers they would file no further answer. The senate then convened to set a trial date.

Negroes from Georgia Mississippi South Carolina and Florida claim seats at the Progressive Party national convention heard by the national committee in Chicago. It was expected decisions would be made before the convention opens Monday. Texas delegation led by Col Cecil Lyon arrived and discussed political arguments on the train. William Kinn of Pittsburg, still a Republican, viewed the coming convention as a Republican gathering.

Local team postponed by rain and travel schedule

J Pluvius halted the game as heavy rain left the diamond poor. Showers continued all afternoon so the game was called off. The team departs today for a three game series in Quitman then Valdosta.

Nicaria Proclaims Independence From Turkish Rule

The island of Nicaria in the Aegean Sea declared independence from the Turkish government. About 13,000 inhabitants seized and imprisoned Turkish officials and asserted self rule. The island, famed in myth for Icarus, is today mainly occupied by Greek charcoal burners. Previously it paid annual tribute to the Pasha of Rhodes.

Haitian Gunboat Ferrier Seized Over Repair Debts

The Haitian gunboat Ferrier, once a New York yacht owned by the late Archibald Watt, is effectively seized at the Philadelphia navy yard over unpaid work. A claim of 1300 dollars blocks removal of mounts and fixtures, while a 600 dollar government bill for surveying and plans remains unsettled. Haitian agents have contacted their minister in Washington.

Illinois third party conference reads possible full ticket

Chicago August 3 Prior to the Illinois convention of the third party there was strong expectation a complete state ticket would be named. Reports said about 300 of 700 delegates might oppose Governor Deneen leading to talk of a belt against any rival to the Illinois executive. Frank W Funk of Bloomington was named as a potential head of a new party ticket.
