Mine Disaster Kills Dozens at East Brookside Mine

Pottsville Aug 2 A large number of anthracite mine workers are reported killed in the East Brookside mine of the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Co at Tower City about twenty miles from here. Estimates of the dead run as high as 50 with two explosions. Two bodies recovered and five more found dead with no life in the mine. A fire boss died from burns. Company officials must confirm how many were in the mine as many did not work Saturday afternoon.
