Resignation marks tense Confederate veterans meeting

In Jackson Camp 806 Confederate veterans last night at the Riflemen’s Armory the committee report on the Hanover Park monument prompted debate. Judge Horace Dart resigned as Camp Jackson commander amid acrimony, while Col J K Dart also offered to resign as a member. factions clashed over the Ladies Memorial Association and the upcoming unveiling on Memorial Day. The episode left the camp divided and anxious about the monument project.

Millions For Georgia Cities In House Building Bill

Washington April 23 An appropriation of a quarter million dollars for an Atlanta federal building extension is in the public building bill. The measure totals about 16 million for cities nationwide with Mercer to report. Other Georgia projects include Athens Macon Rome Brunswick Selma and Montgomery with land purchases and additions planned.

O'Farrell Ordinance Granted Pole and Wire Rights

The Brunswick city council passed and adopted the O'Farrell Ordinance granting Chas J O'Farrell Jr and heirs authority to erect and maintain electric poles and wires on city streets. The ordinance was read three times, amended, and adopted at the April 10 1902 meeting. a minutes omission was corrected in yesterday's publication.

Queen Wilhelmina Shows Slight Improvement in Health

The Hague April 23. After a 45 minute consultation with Professor Rosenstein and other doctors a bulletin reports a slight improvement in the queen's condition. Temperature has fallen since morning and consciousness remains uninterrupted. The general condition is satisfactory, bringing great satisfaction in Holland.

Great Reunion Underway at Dallas Confederate Veterans Meet

Dallas hosts the twelfth reunion with thousands of visitors statewide. The city’s grand mess shed serves meals for 12 000 daily while volunteers feed a hungry multitudes. New Orleans and Louisville vie for next year as United Sons of Confederate Veterans begin annual meetings tomorrow.

Birds of a feuding family duel with shotguns

In Groomstown near Sumter Charley Grooms and his brother in law Tom Connell fought with double barrel shotguns. Over twenty shots were fired with light range birdshot leaving both men injured though not seriously. Connell sustained leg arm and body wounds while Grooms suffered facial chest arm and ear injuries. They posted bonds and were freed, the feud over a ditch on Grooms land fueling the long running dispute.

Brunswick Electrical Supply In Shape For May Start

A News reporter visited Brunswick Electrical Supply and found stock being opened and organized for the new electric light and power plant. Foundations for engines and generators by Contractor W. H. Bowen are nearly finished. Machinery is largely on site and operation is expected by May 15. The firm will also handle general electric supply and construction and guarantees workmanship to pass inspection.

General Electric Firm to Open Brunswick Office

General is to appear before Roosevelt to do work at cost the public will find their prices always as reasonable as is consistent with safe work. Mr Mc J O Farrell is a well known practical electrician with the Hell Telphone company for seven years in charge of inside construction. Mr L J Von Weller is known in Brunswick as former superintendent of the Brunswick Light and Water electric plant for four years. Geo Bailey of Macon will handle inside wiring. Bailey has wired the Oglethorpe hotel and will remain in Brunswick with the new firm. The company has headquarters at 503 Gloucester street and plans extensive electrical construction to meet a long felt want in Brunswick. The News welcomes the new concern and wishes it success.

Brunswick Units Return From Albany Chautauqua Day

All Brunswick military companies the Marine band and several citizens returned from Albany yesterday after taking part in the chautauqua exercises on Tuesday. The special train arrived about 5 am. The boys praise the Albany people's hospitality and call the event a big success with thousands attending Military Day.

Negro kills white woman in Kentucky lynch risk rises

President Orders Sampson Deso Trial By President's Court

General Jakie Smith is to be tried by a president's court martial under direct order from the president, instead of by a court ordered by General Chaffee.
