Frosts General in Southern States Hurt Georgia Fruit Slight

Frosts were general last night in Tennessee Mississippi Alabama Georgia and the Carolinas. In Georgia the damage to fruit crops was slight with a strong wind prevailing. heavy frost reported at Nashville Charlotte Wilmington and Knoxville. Reports from Macon Savannah Augusta Charleston Memphis and Meridian said frost was light.

Black Robber Kills Farmer Near Augusta

In Georgia, W L Collins of Edgefield County S C was assassinated by negro highwaymen near Foxs creek Martinsburg road Aiken county five miles from Augusta George Wood another Edgefield farmer was wounded in the hip and shoulder The robbers fled into the woods a posse and officers search for them and an inquest is scheduled for morning.

German Colonists Arrive Boosting Glynn County Population

Seventeen more German colonists arrived by Southern Railroad and settled near the six mile crossing, bringing Glynn County’s colonist total to about one hundred in a matter of weeks. The newcomers, from a southern Russian province of Germans, aim to establish homes, schools, and churches, aided by local officials to drain lands and prevent sickness.

Plant System absorbed by Atlantic Coast Line

A fire in Atlantic City wrecked blocks of buildings and caused many deaths leaving hundreds homeless. Firemen were powerless as flames raged for hours and the full death and loss totals were not yet known.

Petition to Erect Auditorium At Public Schools Lot

At a crowded council meeting last night a petition signed by many citizens asked for the lot opposite the public schools to build a large auditorium. The matter was not acted on and will likely be taken up again at the next regular meeting. The petitioners mainly back the revival meeting next month and plan a permanent versatile hall.

Elks Install Officers After Notable Brunswick Meeting

Brunswick Lodge of Elks held a well attended session at the hall near the National Bank. Officers elected last week were installed with Exalted Ruler B. P. Coleman and other posts filled by F. A. Wrench Rev C. G. Bradley J. W. Thomas Louis H. Haym Hoyt W. Gale W. B. Isaac and trustees F. Aiken M. Kaiser W. S. Saylor. The New Town Association honored friends with a sociable, prompting plans for another gathering soon.

Southern Railway Announces Round Trip Rate for Dallas Reunion

The Southern Railway sets a 21.05 round trip rate from Brunswick to Dallas Texas for the Confederate Veterans Reunion April 22 to 25. Tickets are sold April 18 19 and 20 with final return limit May 2. An extension to May 15 1902 can be obtained by depositing the ticket with the Dallas agent.

Library entertainment at the opera house Monday night promises a good program. Knights of Pythias drill as they prepare for prize draws. Florida East Coast Help Bound North

About eighty passengers arrived in the city on the steamer Emmeline from Florida and will depart on the Malory steamer Colorado to New York. Ex Mayor Horn Likely To Run Cumberland Island Notes

Ex Mayor Henry Horn of Macon appears set to manage the Cumberland Island notes for the coming season. Horn met yesterday with Brabston Rendig & Co., representatives of the property owners, amid talks of a deal that would place him in charge of the well known hostelry.

Atlantic Coast Line absorbs Plant System and consolidates rail network

The Atlanta Constitution reports the Atlantic Coast Line has absorbed the Plant System and will consolidate both under one charter. The deal would create a 3000 mile system with general management in charge, and a perpetual contract giving Southern Railway simple rights into Jacksonville from Savannah and Jesup, linking eastern and western lines.
