Obituary of Albert S. Johnson of Purdin Missouri

Albert S. Johnson born May 1 1858 in Bowen County Kentucky died October 10 1938 at his home in Purdin Missouri aged 80 years 5 months 9 days He moved to Missouri in 1865 and built a hardware business later part of Purdin Mercantile He was a longtime Methodist and community helper with two surviving brothers Charles and George Johnson Funeral at the Purdin Methodist Church conducted by Rev H E Corbin with interment in local cemetery The service included a hymn read from the Methodist Hymnal Servant of God well done.

Browning Farm Club Sets Annual Meeting at Electric Theatre

The nineteenth annual stockholders meeting of the Browning Farm Club will be at the Electric Theatre Browning Missouri on Tuesday November 1 1938 at 2:00 p m. The meeting will last at least three hours and will elect a five member board for the coming year and handle any other proper business. J M Thurlo president Jas P Bolling secretary.

Bitter Sweet Club Elects New Officers

The Bitter Sweet Club met with Mrs Grace Cox on October 12 to elect officers. New officers include Leona Remick president Roberta Gooch vice president Pearl Goins secretary treasurer Essie Wood reporter Grace Cox game leader and Martha Smith song leader. A meeting is set for October 19 to finish the election and plan the new year.

Board awards auditorium gymnasium contract to Kansas City firm

The local Board of Education met most of Tuesday and opened sealed bids for the new Auditorium Gymnasium. Haren & Peterson of Kansas City won the contract for 17,655 dollars, minus stage equipment and chairs. Work to start by November 8 upon Washington approval.

The General Purpose Club met October 13 with Mrs Essie Brassfield hosting a full day session. Members shared jokes and a book report then elected Mae Hoselton president and Genevieve Thurlo vice president among other posts. Visitors attended and next meeting set for October 27 with Dolly Langdon.

Feast at Enterprise school house features hamburger sandwiches and pie

Stitch and Chatter gang held a Thursday night event at Enterprise school house drawing 85 participants with 168 sandwiches 144 pies and six or seven gallons of trimmings. Winners listed included Clara and Lydia among others. several named as losers. A spelling game separated odd and even numbers while the Golds cooked. Next contest will use sealed envelopes with point rules.
