Farmers in Linn County will hold a set of township meetings October 17 to 22 to relay information on farming practices and the Agricultural Adjustment Act. J Robert Hall or a county committee member will present details and election of the 1938 Township Committeemen will follow. A county reorganization meeting will be held afterward to elect county officers.
Miss Floy Kenley of Browning and Mr. Tom Yardley of Milan wed Saturday October 1 in Trenton Missouri at the Baptist Church manse. Rev Hurst officiated. The couple, joined by Ellis Boyd and L E Bauman families, plan to reside in Riggen's apartment with Yardley employed by L E Bauman Cleaning.
Mr and Mrs Vane Tharlo entertained a group at their Brookfield home on Wednesday October 5 including Mrs Eunice Dickinsor Mr and Mrs Cay Crow and their son and daughter Mr and Mrs Marjorie Powers and their son Mr and Mrs Sherburn Fields and Mrs E E Freeman of Enid Oklahoma in attendance

Mr and Mrs Herbert C Bailey hosted a Sunday dinner for guests including Mr and Mrs Harry Hamilton Mrs Emma Roach and Mrs Ella Francis of Humphreys Dr and Mrs M L Haning Mr and Mrs Herbert Hamilton Mr and Mrs L S Peterson Mrs Lee Thurlo Mr and Mrs W W Crawford Mrs Josie Jones and Mrs Nellie Seaman Aunt Emma Roach was guest of honor, described as unusually healthy at 91 with all faculties.
Four contractors have submitted sealed bids for the local auditorium gym project. Bids will be opened next Tuesday at noon and a contract awarded if a bid is accepted. With good weather, interior work could proceed this fall. no action yet on acquiring additional grounds.
Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Hoselton and Mrs. Annie Mezger of Brooks California attended the Pulliam family reunion at Linneus Sunday. Mrs. Mezger met many relatives and friends she had not seen in thirty five years.
The North Salem Quilting Club gathered October 6 for a full day of block piecing and quilting a wedding gift for Madaline Tucker. A noon meal followed in the dining room. Members and visitors listed include Ida Opal Lela Vernie Lavenia Helen Eva Flossie Ethel L Madaline Josephine Florence Neva Clara Emma Effie Doris Edgar Jim Callum Mae L. A. Dickinson John Edd Oren Edgar Leo Uncle Will Wayne Doc. The meeting opened with hymn singing and closed with the Lord s Prayer.
The Bagley family reunion gathered Sunday at Linneus Park with a noon basket dinner. Attendees included relatives from Quincy Rock Island and Kirksville among many Linneus and Brookfield residents. plans were made to meet again next year.
The Mary Martha Society held a Thursday October 6 meeting at Mrs Edgar Carters home. Twelve members attended and opened with The Old Rugged Cross followed by a business session and social hour. Proceeds from a Home Coming stand were reported. Next gathering set for October 20 at 7 30 p m with Mrs Maude Caldwell.
A large gathering of relatives and friends met at Edgar and Cokerham home on Sunday October 9 to celebrate Paul Cokerham’s birthday During two weeks in Chicago NL guests shared a basket dinner and music in the afternoon Attendees included numerous Cokerham Lambert Miller and Montgomery families from Purdin plus Helen Bankenship and others.
T. Johnson and son Donald joined Aaron Powell and J W Dust were in Kansas City on Friday for a pre show of the new Chevrolet model. The car will be on display in coming days at the Johnson Chevrolet Company showroom.
The notice invites buyers and sellers for a stock cattle and feeder lamb sale in Purdin with livestock accepted on Saturday October 15. Organizers expect strong inquiry and anticipate selling all stock presented.
The entire Browning Schools faculty will depart for Kirksville this morning for the annual District meeting. A conference football game is on the program. About seventy percent of instructors are K S T C trained making this feel like a homecoming. School work will be suspended for two days.
The nineteenth annual stockholders meeting of the Browning Farm Club will be held at the Electric Theatre in Browning Missouri on Tuesday November 1 1938 at 2:00 p m. The meeting will last at least three hours to elect five directors for the coming year and to address any other business. J M Thurlo president Jas P Bolling secretary.
Locust Valley Ladies Aid met at the Thurlo home October 6 for an all day session. Fourteen members attended with guests from Brooks California and Brookfield. A noon dinner followed a program of readings songs and jokes. attendees listed include Annie Mezger K M Duncan Vane Thurlo Ross Fuller and others.
The Linn County total enrollment sums to 4 578 with breakdowns by district. Brookfield and Browning report large high school and elementary counts and transportation assets. Detailed pupil residence, color, and transportation figures are listed for each school including Marceline and Meadville and other districts.

Plans outline installing powerful flood lights at the local ball park next spring. At least three softball teams will be organized, uniforms provided, and a selected All-Stars team formed from all participants. Softball is highlighted as a popular local entertainment and athletes plan a big season.
Dr. and Mrs. E G Ruhrman took Mrs Rose VanSeggan to Kirksville Sunday for treatment. She fell at her home two weeks ago and has been confined to bed since the incident.
