Barbara Hanman born March 10 1835 in Westmoreland county Pennsylvania died September 30 1918 near Browning Missouri aged 83 years 6 months 20 days She moved with family to Ohio then Linn county Missouri and joined United Brethren Pleasant Grove church Her father Rev Abraham Zumbro was a minister and she married John Hanman born in Missouri
Mrs Hanman died and was buried at the U B church after a Christian life marked by charity and family devotion. She leaves two children six grandchildren three sisters and three brothers. Funeral was led by Rev J F Patton at the U B church and she rests beside her husband.

In a wartime appeal, Daniel Nickell of Co. G, 15th Regiment, urges Americans to purchase more bonds and sacrifice financially as loving fellow citizens fall ill or die from the epidemic. He warns against complacency and stresses equal sharing of burden among all, noting health risks and the ongoing war.
In the Maggart district north of Cora two wealthy bachelors Alfred and H. P. Maggart attended a district meeting to raise the Liberty Loan quota. With a $3,100 target, they contributed $7,000, surpassing the goal by $3,900, earning praise as one hundred percent Americans supporting the war effort.
A dated August 27 1918 letter from a World War I soldier in France to home folks. He writes of returning to the rear, sending updates to Elwood and Emmett, asks about an insurance policy and money sent, notes Ralph enlisted, mentions scarce troops, and recalls seeing oxen and hog transport experiences in the countryside.
The letter notes horses with shoes to cope with rock roads and mentions plans to move from the current section. Harold H. Abbott of the Med Department, 9th Infantry, signs off, unsure of future destination.
Ben Barrows and Miss Nellie Warren wed at the Warren home near Wheeling in a ceremony conducted by Rev. Aqrhard. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Warren, teaches at the Smith school. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Barrows, recently served in the navy at Camp Logan and writes from Rhode Island after rifle team medals. A charivari followed and both will proceed with their duties. Barrows to camp and the bride to school.
The M. E. Church, South schedules its first Quarterly Conference at Bear Branch next Saturday at 2 p m. Officials are urged to attend, as the Presiding Elder will discuss items related to the centenary of Methodist Missouri.
