Jennings 77 of Milan Missouri died September 30 1944 at Simpson Hospital Milan He was born October 30 1866 in Sullivan County Missouri He married Hattie Almond May 26 1889 They had seven children four died in infancy Surviving are his wife three children seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren Also three brothers Funeral services conducted by Rev M L Holloway were held October 2 1944 at 2 pm at White Oak Church with burial nearby.

Sullivan County 4-H beef and pig club members placed in most classes at the 25th Anniversary Beef and Pig Club Show in St Joseph September 26 to 28. Exhibitors earned top finishes in calves carload and various breed classes while fifty four head of baby beeves sold for average 23 cents per pound. Auction sales ranged from 174 to 214 cents per pound, plus premium money boosting profits.

Mrs. Gail L. Hayes of Milan received official word from the War Department that her husband Gail L. Hayes of the Armed Forces had been killed in action in Belgium on September 11. Hayes was Sullivan County treasurer before enlisting in December 1943 and had been overseas since June. he was a nephew of Van Mairs near the city.

The fiftieth anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Freeland was marked at their Browning home on Sept 30 1944. They wed Sept 30 1894 at the bride’s parents home and lived near Browning except twelve years near Kirksville. Their four children are Glenn of Cora Clive of Rivers Ariz Neil of St. Joseph Mo and Vera Lay of St. Louis Mo. A tea shaped table dinner and a three tier cake with a gold No 50 center were highlights.
