A moral column urges cheerful home life and daily effort to keep a positive outlook. It contrasts harsh moods with a mother’s care, the value of sunshine at home, and the Sabbath School ideal of lifelong learning from biblical truths.
John Washington Harvey born May 24, 1884 in Harrison County Virginia. He married Armeda Ann Cunningham on November 18 1856 and had ten children. He moved to Linn County in 1865 and became a successful farmer noted for sweet potato plants. He died November 25 after creeping paralysis. Funeral services were held at the M E Church with burial in Jenkins cemetery. He leaves a widow six children nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Browning Creamery Co advertises buying No 1 separator cream testing 30 percent or more at 33 cents per pound and 30 cents for gravity or hand skimmed cream. They promise honest weights and tests and will pay more when market permits, rejecting stale or sour cream.
Carter plans to buy a large car load of horses at the Saturday sale, visiting the neighboring market to bid higher than any other buyer. He intends to secure the top prices and stay to purchase more stock.
The annual Sullivan County teachers association met in Milan from Thursday to Saturday with a larger turnout and a strong program arranged by County Superintendent Miss Jones. State Superintendent Evans spoke and R H Emerson of Columbia addressed attendees daily as the event highlighted a strong, growing corps of teachers.
At the James Lee home east of town on Saturday night last Ray Lee and Lela Slater joined in marriage with Rev. Henry of the M. E. Church officiating. Both have long local roots and are highly regarded, with well wishers sending lifelong happiness and joyous honeymoon days. Paedin Enterprise.
A lengthy church gathering led by Pastor Rev B Fanning with Revs Potter and Nickell attracts increasing interest each night. Several have joined the church and Christians of all denominations foresee a grand united effort. The attendance is large and growing. all are invited to attend.
Tempie Eunice Alspach born October 8, 1890 in Sullivan county Missouri grew to womanhood in Duncan township. She joined the Christian church in Milan in 1908 and later married Balliard D. Harman of Lebanon Virginia in Spokane in 1910. She died November 22 after illness in Kansas City and was buried at Hoover cemetery beside her infant, with funeral conducted in this city by B D Bolling.
Joseph Sullivan and Effie Peters planned a Milan ceremony but wed Friday after a depot miscommunication. Probate Judge Eubanks performed the nuptials, followed by a quiet drive home and a late night charivari with pans and loud cheers. Effie Peters is daughter of C W Peters. Sullivan is a traveling salesman for W W Copeland of Burlington Iowa.

The Linn County chamber of deaths lists September statistics with 21 deaths and 50 births. Causes include typhoid fever one case, diphtheria and croup one, tuberculosis lungs three, other forms of tuberculosis one, cancer three, nervous system one, heart and circulatory system four, other respiratory diseases one, other causes one. Population 25 250.
Tax collector B. W. Alexander, Col. announces he will be in Browning on Mondays and Saturdays each week to collect Benton township taxes.
