Ralph B. Hamilton born Sept 28 1888 near Greencastle grew up there and taught school. He married Frankie Parsons in January 1915 and moved to Texas before returning to Missouri. He later worked for a Chicago poultry firm and died in Seldon Iowa on October 21 after influenza and pneumonia at age 30.
William J. Woodside son of Mr and Mrs J A Woodside born August 6 1906 died November 4 1918 from lockjaw after stepping on a nail. He joined Bear Branch church over a year ago. Funeral held at U B church Tuesday at 4 pm conducted by Rev J F Patton with many mourners. Survived by his father mother four brothers and three sisters.
Miss Leo Neely receives Oct 15 letter from Sgt. Fred K. Harris of the 189th Infantry describing heavy shelling, repeated knockdowns, and a leg injury from a shell while chasing the Dutch toward the Rhine. He mentions encountering the 54th division and searching for the brother of the recipient.
Monday marks the start of United War Work campaign with Sen E B Fields and K M Duncan visiting residents to raise 690 in Linn county. J D Burwell and Joe Nickell in the Strip surpass their 90 quota before noon and forward funds to County Chairman L M Baldridge at Milan as local seniors back the effort.
