A farm accident near Green City on Monday May 20 1912 left a 5 or 6 year old girl with her nose and upper lip severed and three lower teeth damaged when the ax struck as she joined her brother cutting sprouts. Doctors Herington and Plumlee treated and stitched the wounds and expect the nose and lip to unite though a scar will remain.
Sunday at the local diamond Milan and Purdin boys played an exciting game aided by local supporters. The score stood 4 to 4 after eight innings before the Milan team left on the evening train, with observers predicting a tiebreaker soon.

C A Fleming known as Curt from Linn County is praised as a lifelong livestock trader. He shipped two loads of 1100-pound steers to Chicago, selling at 8.65 per cwt and expressing satisfaction with the price and handling. The Leader-Record reproduces a likeness via the National Live Stock Commission Co. and notes Fleming’s strong support for National.
In cooperation with the U S Forestry Service the Forestry Department of the Agricultural College begins an experiment to identify willow species suited to Missouri climate. Flood-prone river lands offer a good site for basket willow cultivation with annual yields of 1000 to 1300 pounds per acre and values of five to seven cents per pound. Demand for high grade willow rods and wicker furniture grows with industry.
States import over 1,000,000 pounds annually. The Agricultural College will determine the proper species for Missouri and foster the industry by distributing cuttings.
Farmers had faced extreme dry weather with poor corn germination and with fields uneven and pastures drying. Sunday showed signs of rain but failed, then Monday brought a heavy shower from the northwest followed by a further downpour in the evening, bringing much needed moisture to the ground.
A mule team driven by James Carmack startled residents Saturday around 3 PM after leaving Fleming's lumber yard. Lantz arrived by auto, spurring a chaotic dash down Main Street before Carmack wrestled the reins, halting near Kaifong's barn and returning to the yard with his lumber. Two girls narrowly escaped injury amid the excitement.

Forestry students from the Missouri Agricultural College will study pine forest conditions in Shannon County during summer. A camp near Eminence on the Current River, on Missouri Lumber and Mining Company land, will host tents and self-sufficient living. Courses cover surveying, logging road layout, timber estimation, and forest fire and disease protection, with open enrollment for lumbermen and woodsmen.
Jasper N. Stanforth, a regular grand jury panel member, died at the Rawlings House from heart failure after falling ill Monday evening. He prepared for burial at Schoene's, with services at Mt. Zion cemetery. He was sixty seven and longtime resident, with funeral today.
