Yesterday morning Mrs. Basket about 60, from the south part of town, had a breast splinter about one and a half inches long break off while she walked home. The attending physician warns there is danger and the splinter may need removal, hoped to work free but removal would be dangerous.
Jno W Harvey of Browning Missouri advertises sweet potato plants for sale at Farmers Store and at his residence in east Browning. A city notice from Mayor R J Sparks dated May 15 1907 orders merchants and business people to close on Sundays in accordance with Missouri statutes effective May 19 1907.
Browning Missouri merchants sign an agreement to close all places of business at 8 p m each weekday evening from May 20 1907 to November 1 1907 except Saturday and to keep stores closed on Sundays. Signed by H Clay Jones Fielps Merc Co and J J Smith.
Dr Roy Whaley and Miss Alpha Haymaker were married in Wyoming on May 16. He is the eldest son of Dr and Mrs D L Whaley and a rising local physician. She is the youngest child of Mr and Mrs F M Haymaker, known for community work. The couple plan a western visit and then Browning home. The Leader Record joins friends in congratulating the couple.
The Board of Education elected E. I. Harris as Superintendent and E. C. Bailey as Assistant for the upcoming year. Also chosen were Finess Buchanan for Grammar, Maude Fields for Intermediate, Celia Constance for Room 2, and Florence Clarkson for Primary. Three new teachers were added based on records and recommendations. Sweet potato plants are ready. Buxtons offers new millinery and hats at agreeable prices.
A letter urges Brown ing to improve fire protection with a hook and ladder wagon and basic equipment. The writer proposes a cart or wagon with adders axes buckets and other gear at low cost to aid the bucket brigade and speed response to alarms, asking city fathers for ready cash.
Abstract book records show numerous transfers including ZT Crosby to Fred Doyle Green City lot for 800, Hiram Greer to David and Susan Schultz Milan lot 265, Wm W Murdock to Wm H Murdock 120 acres Sec 36 64 21 for 1000, and John A Cooper to DV Bear 240 acres Sec 21 62 22 for 9000. Other deeds include S L Jewett to John A Cooper 240 acres Sec 12 61 21 9600 and John L Smith to Frank Wood 160 acres Sec 4 63 18 5200, with multiple additional parcels in various townships. News items note PEO meeting at Mrs Iva Fleming hostess, convention plans, local ordinances not published, residents visiting, births, and noted local business activity and arrivals.
The Linn community reports heavy rain and mud slowing fieldwork with many farmers replanting corn. Local updates note B F Stone returning from Laredo, Mrs John Thurlo’s slow recovery, Ed Phillips visiting L B Lips, and John Fishback painting. A basket dinner at Mundell Cemetery on Thursday May 30 aims to clean the graveyard by 11 am ahead of Rev Dowell’s address.
Taylor reports warmer weather as Neely assists A J El Edith and Irl Neete visit Alpha Keithley Sunday afternoon and attend Locust Valley church. Families like Bartow, Bar tow, Hill, Merrill and Merrick gather for a quarterly meeting at Haseville. Various neighbors travel for business and social visits while farming notes mention replanting corn and a new son for Will Crooks.
A cold rain Tuesday kept many indoors while Lorene Harris was absent sick. Chioral Lambert helps her aunt Mrs. Leah Lambert this week. Will Kinley from near Milan dined with Loyd Crowdis. The township board held a call meeting Saturday for business. C. M. Harris is ill this week. Mt. Zion youths attended Grove church. Mrs. Nora Harris hosted S. H. Linhart and wife for dinner. Joe Johnson visited A. J. Cotter Sunday. Ad Gooch returns from Colorado and sports a distinctive heavy mustache. E. Allen and family and James Dui family visited sister Mrs. Lina Harris. Lucy and Willie Southerland hosted a peach and cake supper Friday. Earnest Linhart’s best lady was seen taking him for a drive Sunday evening. Rev. Crist of Winigan began a meeting at Rodney Tuesday night. Nova Crowdis and E. E. Harris split posts Monday for S. H. Linhart. T. S. Elliott began preaching with A. E. Lambert of near here. High grade Concentrated Lye four cans for 25 cents.
A reader letter warns that blue-pencil marked subscriptions expire between issues, or the paper may discontinue the Leader Record at the first of the month. It notes a $1.00 annual prepaid rate and urges keeping the lid on to prevent tippling patrons from resuming drinking, while hoping sober families and teachers will educate children in Brown ing this fall.
