Five year old Lillian Long died after her clothing caught fire during stalk burning near Purdin. Her father Mr Tone Long suffered burns while tearing off her clothes and effort to save her failed. The girl was buried at United Brethren church as the city board discussed ordinances and city finances at the mayor’s office. The note includes council actions on intoxicated street behavior sidewalk grades poll tax and street inspections. A separate item describes a cat adopting four rabbits, attracting visitors.
A small blaze started by J. W. Biswell around eleven Friday morning at his home was extinguished with neighbor help after he returned from the store. A gale wind heightened risk, and without neighbor aid several other buildings could have burned.
Thursday night the school board appointed W. T. Moore to replace Chas. E. Rinehart who resigned. Elected for the year were Leonard Shipley as superintendent Mrs. Hermin Adams principal S. P. Carr grammar Mrs. Etta M. Bailey second intermediate Miss Lilah Fleming intermediate and Mrs. Eunice Dickinson primary. The core of teachers are well and favorably known here.

A personal letter from W F Lyon in Washington to Joseph Nickell of Browning Missouri dated April 29 1920 expresses happiness at a response and sends a money order to cover a subscription. He notes infrequent contact with Biswell Lodge masons and praises Browning’s paper as a credit to the town.
W. S. Mitchell and Miss Myrtle Hale of Purdin surprised friends by marrying in Chillicothe. Hale is daughter of C. S. Hale, while Mitchell works as assistant cashier at the Stockgrowers Bank. The couple now receives many congratulations.
F J Alspach of Duncan township tested 1074 kernels with 95 percent sprouting as only 61 failed. The note highlights the value of seed corn testing to prevent poor stands and crop losses and compares to last year’s bad growing season. A separate recap describes a local baseball game between Be er and an unnamed visitor, ending 8 to 7 after a close ninth inning.

Milan's Squire Andrews Court docketed the Franklin case as Wm. Franklin shot James Bohannon at Cora. The state was represented by J. P. Painter and the defense by Clapp and Bingham. After witnesses for both sides, the defendant was discharged. Bohannon is improving and expected to be out soon.

J A Cassity bought ten horses last week after a hunt for fancy stock. He paid a total of 2360 dollars, about 236 dollars per animal, and says they were worth the money.
