Two Local Citizens Dead in Kirksville and Browning Areas

Obituaries report the deaths of Rebecca Belle Wilhite and Lila Engle Lister. Rebecca Belle Wilhite of Browning died June 23 1938 at Grim Smith Hospital Kirksville Missouri after a life on the family homestead. She leaves husband George Edward Wilhite and children Etta Eva Eunice sister Ellen Bivens and many relatives. Funeral services were at Locust Valley Baptist Church Browning with interment in Jenkins cemetery. Lila Engle Lister of Green Rock New Jersey died Tuesday at her home with services led by Rev W M Owen and interment in Hoover cemetery beside her husband. Pallbearers listed.

Benjamin Titus Jolley born July 10 1851 in Green County Pennsylvania died June 26 1938 at his Browning Missouri home aged 86 years 11 months 16 days He moved to Missouri with his family near Scottsville in Sullivan County He married Laura Alice Thurlo and had two children Miles Earnest of Ephra ta Washington and Pearl Jolley Engle who is deceased His wife died in 1917 He is survived by his son Earnest and a granddaughter Mourning his passing a final notice of the Jolley family member

About one hundred fifty farmers and their wives attended at Browning Farm Club Monday night. Speakers Mr Spurlock and Mr OKeith, Missouri Farmer's Association representatives, gave educational talks. Ice cream and cookies were served and attendees reported a pleasant evening.

Last Thursday night June 23 neighbors gathered at Mr. and Mrs. T. S. C. Lambert to surprise Miss Avis Stinson visiting from Chicago. The crowd enjoyed candy, cards, and Chinese checkers, with a generous supply of sweets as the evening progressed.

True Blue Club Meeting At Mrs Arnold Home

The True Blue Club met June 22 with Mrs. Lewis Arnold as hostess. Ten members and three visitors attended including Mrs. Wayne Bagley and daughter Bertie and Lila May Garrett. Activities included a club collect, singing, reports, Bible discussion, comicel drawings, refreshments, a flower tour, and each member received a bouquet.

Health Club Organized at Ervin Eccles Home

A Health Club met at the Ervin Eccles home on Thursday night under the direction of Miss Bertha Banning. Twelve members attended, six boys and six girls, with officers elected including Leader Irene Crooks and President Keith Kirby. The Stitch and Chatter Club gathered on Thursday June 23 with new member Mrs Blanche Head for an all day meeting. A noon dinner was served and the group finished a quilt though many were full from lunch. The Browning Redbirds lost 7 to 3 to the Trenton Ban Johnson League team at Eastside Park in Trenton on a Friday night. Dickinson pitched well with twelve strikeouts though Browning made fielding errors under lights. Hair earned sixteen strikeouts for Trenton as Browning plans another August game.

Transportation meetings set for Sullivan and Linn counties

Officials announce annual transportation meetings at 10 a.m. on July 2 in Sullivan County and July 23 in Linn County. W E Sears of the State Department of Education will attend to approve routes and advise boards on transportation issues.
