Revival of Missouri Tobacco Growth Boosted by War in Ky and Tenn

Missouri’s 1910 Red Book shows 5,010 acres planted with tobacco yielding 4,433,850 pounds valued at about 576,400 dollars at 13 cents a pound. The 1908 to 1909 rise doubled acreage and more than doubled yield, with 2,104,262 pounds shipped from other cities and home use. Major producing counties include Platte Chariton Cooper and others, with soil suited to white barley tobacco yielding 1,800 to 2,000 pounds per acre in Platte and Chariton.

Butter Factory Opens With Full Equipment in Marceline

The butter plant, a one story frame building 26 by 38 feet with a 12 foot ceiling and a 10 by 16 foot annex, began operation with 62 shares of 100 each. Directors Jas Neet Walter Prather A M Elliott Herbert C Bailey and A E Lambert oversaw startup. about 250 pounds of butter produced and cream price raised by two cents.

Mass Meeting Rejects Fourth of July Celebration in Purdin

In Purdin Missouri on June 23 1910 business leaders voted against holding a Fourth of July celebration for that year citing lack of park shade water and adequate preparations. The signatories declare they are not liable for actions of others and attest their signatures dated June 27 1910.

Obituary of Margarett Hatcher Hooker of Lineville

Margarett Hatcher born in Sullivan county on December 26, 1839 married to John Hooker January 14, 1858. They had 11 children, seven living: Mrs. G. A. Barrows Browning John T. Hooker Browning Mrs. M. E. Jacobs Lineville J. M. Hooker Lineville Mrs. Henry Galliver George and Mark Hooker Lineville. She moved to Lineville September 5, 1892 and died June 18, 1910. Funeral held June 20 at the M E church conducted by M R F Nickell with many relatives present. Burial in Lineville cemetery. The Hooker family receives sympathy from friends.

Browning Observes Sixtieth Birthday With Notable Gathering

About one hundred neighbors and friends joined A. Browning for a Sunday birthday dinner. An ample noon meal preceded ice cream and cake later. Guests departed after wishing him many more happy birthdays.

Cordia Pearlee Broyles and Dr. Charles Gorr of Chicago were married in Oklahoma City on Monday June 20. The wedding surprised Linn county friends who know Miss Broyles as a popular stenographer and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Obe Broyles. Dr. Gorr, a leading Chicago surgeon, persuaded her to accompany him on a wedding trip after his business visit here.

The wedding of Pearl Wyatt to Frank Cotter took place Sunday June 25 at 6 p.m. Rev Will Barkley officiated at the Jones residence. Pearl, a Browning saleswoman, will move to her husband’s western home in Goodland Kansas where Frank works on the Rock Island line.
