Wm Miller Dies in Purdin at 82

Wm Miller died at his home in Purdin on Monday evening June 12 at age 82 after forty years in the town. He is survived by his wife and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held June 14 at 2 PM at the Baptist Church in Purdin conducted by Rev Whaley. Interment followed in the Purdin cemetery under Wade Funeral Service supervision.

4H Calves Win at St Joseph Dairy Show

Linn County 4-H members won one blue, two red and three white ribbons at the St Joseph Dairy Show last Friday. The Dairy judging team placed seventh among about 30 teams from Missouri Kansas Iowa and Nebraska 4-H and vocational groups. Carrol Switzer Bucklin won a blue ribbon on his two year old Jersey cow bought with Sears Dairy Grant. Larry and Melanie Maxwell earned red ribbons on their junior heifers and Larry and Carol Lea Varney won white on theirs. Contest participants included Edward Wolf Carol Switzer Curtis Coulson Carol Lea Varney Larry Maxwell and Melanie Maxwell with Edward Carol and Carol Lea on the judging team. There were 192 animals represented.

About 250 4 H Club members parents and friends gathered at the Everett Harris farm on Sunday June 11 for a basket dinner and a day of judging grooming and showmanship contests. Bobby Haggy led the judging with 200 points and the blue ribbon calves included Herefords and Angus from Junior Badger Franklin Harris Wanda Haggy and others. Lelan Ryan county extension agent judged the nine baby beef calves with help from Floyd Badger Everett Harris and Raymond F. Smith.

Enterprise 4-H Club June Meetings Report

The Enterprise 4-H Club met June 4 at the Enterprise school house with 61 members present. A short program of songs and readings preceded a basket dinner, and a livestock tour planned for the afternoon was postponed due to ball games. The club reconvened at Dickinson school house on June 8 with demonstrations on grooming and talks on hose and shoe care and a grooming quiz activity.
