William A Smith Called to Great Beyond

William Anderson Smith a pioneer farmer and businessman of Cathay North Dakota died Saturday afternoon June 20 after two months of cancer. Born March 17 1863 in Sullivan County Missouri he was 62 years three months three days. He married Clara Mathis November 20 1882 and had nine children with six living. He moved from Missouri to Kidder County ND in 1883 and to Cathay in 1893 where he served as school director village trustee and Knights of Pythias member. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery Cathay.

Star Route Carrier's Car Burned

Walter Bunch the Winigan postal carrier witnessed his car catch fire on the Browning to Winigan route. He saved the mail, but the vehicle burned to a mass of flames despite efforts. He suspects the batteries caused the blaze and had partial insurance. He notes the route's tough geography and frequent hazards.

Surprise Birthday Dinner at Jennings Home
