The Citizens Savings Bank moved this week into a remodeled building formerly occupied by Citizens State Bank. Expensive fixtures and marble give a city bank feel while offering more room in modern quarters for Browning and surrounding community residents.
Sunday a large social at the T. W. McCollum home welcomed Ola Hall and son Olean of Eldorado and Frank Burger and children from Hutchinson, with music by guests. A long list of neighbors and kin from North Salem Winigan Brookfield Browning and St. Catherine attended.
The Stitch and Chatter Club gathered with Mrs. Opal Gooch on July eleven, twenty members present. Guests included Mrs. Laura Hamilton Aunt Jane Ross and others. A peach and cake supper followed with fifty one attendees and several families. Members named as purples and golds helped serve and entertain with music and games.
After supper everyone prepared to head home around twelve o'clock. The Enterprise school house serves as a nice meeting place. The group schedules next gathering with Bessie Steele on Thursday July 18.
George Elbert Kollasch celebrated his fifteenth birthday with a dinner hosted by his mother Mrs. Lantz McCormick. Guests included Mauriene Kollasch Betty Jo Kollasch Hazel Langenbach P P Kollasch Duane Ronald Williams Joe Wyan Woodward Howard Christy Mr McCormick and Mr Geo Christy. They reported an enjoyable time and wished him many happy birthdays.
A July birthday dinner for Ray Maggart drew a list of Milan visitors and families including the Browning, Lawrence, Clark, Sayre, Sayer, Montgomery, Keithley, Henry, Maggart, Marlay, Lambert, Jennings and Neff households. After a noon meal and music, guests enjoyed swimming and departed late wishing more birthdays.
Joe Johnson reports a Spotted Poland China pig weighing between 75 and 80 pounds. The note notes the animal is a show stock entry likely for fair exhibition and judging.
A Monday birthday surprise at Ella Keithley’s home featured card playing and refreshments. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Calhoun and son James, Mrs. Jennie Epperson, Mrs. Dan Freeland, Mrs. Lorene Whaley, and Henry Harris, who departed late wishing her many happy returns.
Entertained Mr and Mrs D G Freeland and daughter Vera with Mr and Mrs Her bert Joiner and children Mrs Maggie F Wells of Plano Iowa Mr and Mrs G G Freeland and sons and Miss Dorothy Haggard at Sunday visit.
Mrs Maude Holiday entertained Sunday with a dinner for Noel A. Smith of Kansas City and guests including Pearl and Sarah Larson of Kansas City, Clyde Pearson and son Finis of Green City, Melvin Wyant of Pollock, G. L. Kinton of Milan, and Helen Wykoff of Purdin.
Miss Erma Peterson hosted a Thursday bridge event with two tables. Prizes went to Pelle Logan Frances Carr and Beverly Moore. Present were Velma Jennings Harriett Wicker Genevieve Prather Eve lyn Neely and Ia Nevins. Refreshments were served by the hostess.
A. D. Peterson served as Browning postmaster from July 1, 1925, to July 16, 1935, a decade of steady service praised for courtesy and efficiency. He was assisted by Mrs. Opal Johnson and Miss Alean Woodworth, who handled mail operations well and kept public trust high.
J. D. Burwell received his commission as postmaster of Browning and took possession on Tuesday. The long running contest to succeed A. D. Peterson ended with Burwell as winner amid many aspirants. He is a Democrat and plans to hire clerks after brief training by Mrs. Opal Johnson and Miss Alean Woodworth assistance until new clerks are chosen.
Willing Workers Club met on Wednesday July 10 with Charlotte and Carlyn Haley. Members edged pillow tars and scarves with lace and set up a fan quilt. After a noon meal the two o clock business meeting led by president Mable Brown.
The True Blue Club met on July 10 with Mrs. Elmer Hammock and leader Mrs. Bryan Molloy presiding. Twelve members answered to the roll.
The meeting opened with the club song and collection. The president led as it was decided to hold an ice cream supper at Shafter school house on August 3 where the quilt would be raffled to raise funds for a piano. Corene Smith was named children's game leader and Miss Joyce Molloy and Veda Irene Hammock served iced tea and cookies.

Ice cream and cake will be served on Wednesday night July 24 for the Brown ing Band benefit. The Civic Club urges patronage to support the band through this fundraiser.
Ross Lantz, a leading Duncan township farmer, cut his wheat late in the week and immediately threshing began. Wheat yields about twelve bushels per acre with abundant straw. This fast harvest method contrasts with the local habit of shocking or stacking then threshing later. Lantz owns his own harvesting and threshing equipment and is one of the area’s largest wheat growers.
The Friendship Club met on Thursday July 11 with Mrs Willie Grindstaff. After dinner the program opened with a Bible reading and prayer by Sister Smith, then members pieced a quilt top. Attendees included Mary McClarren and family, Bes sie Ford, Thelma Badger, Kate Sayers and many others. The next gathering is July 18 at Elnore Kings.

William Hirth president of the Missouri Farmers Association invites county court judges road commissioners and highway engineers to a July 31 meeting in the State Capitol to push farm to market roads. The call stresses rural relief from bad roads, fair share of federal funds, and practical, durable road beds over costly engineering.
The local band directed by Edward F Williams gave its first Mainstreet concert Wednesday night before a drawn crowd. Musicians from Milan assisted with Lehman Atherton guest conducting as the Civic Club prepared a portable platform for future performances.
