Sunday July 19 will be observed as Brassfield Day in Browning honoring Lieutenant Arthur J Brassfield and all soldiers on leave. A program at City Park begins at 2 30 p m with music from the Milan Band.
Attorney Vane C. Thurlo of Jefferson City will deliver the main address. The welcome is by Herbert C. Bailey with Master of Ceremonies L. E. Atherton of Milan. Lieutenant Brassfield will share experiences. If rain occurs the program moves to the high school auditorium.
The Business and Professional Women's Club of Brookfield will host an afternoon tea honoring Mrs. Arthur J. Brassfield as the guest of honor. She will meet the war mothers and wives of service members from Brookfield and area at the Elks Club on Friday July 17 from 3 to 5 o clock.
A stray yearling or two year old steer wandered from the Harmon pasture as reported by Otto T. Johnson.
Mrs Velma Jennings hosted Circle No 1 of the W S of C S on a Friday afternoon. Margaret Smith led worship, Rev. Tate offered prayer, and Nellie Seaman spoke on Americas Stake in Africa. A white elephant sale, refreshments, and a long roll call followed with many members listed.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Peterson and three children of Albia Iowa along with Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jennings and daughters were Sunday dinner guests of their mother Mrs. E F Peterson.

Mr and Mrs W R Rhodes entertained on Sunday July 12 with a dinner for their daughter Sandra Ruth who turned six and for Ben Rhodes who departs Thursday for the U S Army. Guests included Hinda Rush Harry Rhodes Frances Lou Glenn Rhodes Dickie Earl Nickell Joyce Ann Bobby and G T Woodward. Sandra Ruth received a phone call from her aunt Mrs Ruth Lawrence of Brookfield who could not attend.

The American Legion leads a nationwide salvage drive to turn old phonograph records into scrap to fund new records and phonographs for soldiers at home and abroad. Millions have been collected. millions more are needed before the August 2 deadline to support servicemen and lift morale with music.

Loneda Ruth York and Charley M. Smith married in Waynesville Missouri on June 20 1942. The bride is daughter of Virgil and Mrs York. the groom son of T M and Mrs Smith of North Salem Missouri. Smith has served in the Army thirteen months and the couple will reside near Waynesville while Smith is stationed at Fort Leonard Wood.
The group met in a special session Tuesday afternoon at president Mrs. H. C. Bailey’s home. Mrs. Almeda Bartow was initiated into the Sisterhood during the gathering. Guest Mrs. Sssie Slack attended the social hour and refreshments included ice cream wafers and iced tea.
Ice Cream Supper at Mt Zion Methodist Church on Friday night July 17 sponsored by the Happy Workers Club to raise funds for church activities.
Mr and Mrs W H Havens entertained at their country home west of town on Sunday July 5 with their children and grandchildren. The noon meal featured chicken salads pies cakes and other dishes. They returned home late in the evening content with the day.
Wilson Quigley of the U S Navy returned home Tuesday to visit his father Jake Quigley and relatives before resuming active duty in the Pacific. He will then attend school in San Diego for four months.

Mr and Mrs Luther DeVore hosted a Sunday dinner at their home honoring their son Pvt Vernon DeVore from Jefferson Barracks home on furlough and Avalee DeVore’s fifth birthday. Family and neighbors from Promis e City Seymour Centerville and nearby gathered for the occasion with many DeVore relatives present. A Monday ice cream supper drew about forty attendees including extended DeVore and Woodside families.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Bagley of Vegennes Inl announce the arrival of an 8% lb baby boy on July 2nd. Mother and babe are doing nicely.
Homecoming day at Pleasant Grove United Brothers church south east of Browning on Sunday July 19 with Sunday school at 10 am preaching at 11 am basket dinner at noon and afternoon services at 2 pm featuring special music and guest speakers. Edgar E. Rushton is pastor.
