Mrs. C. B. Purdin Dies at 76 After Farm Life

Josephine Britton Purdin, born October 22, 1867 in Sullivan County Missouri near Owasco, died June 28 1944 at 76. She married Charles B. Purdin in 1892. they lived on a farm near Milan Missouri and reared two foster children. Funeral at Mt Zion Church June 30 with Rev P H Chaffee officiating.

Willing Workers Club Meets for Day of Faith and Fellowship

The Willing Workers Club met on Wednesday June 28 with seven members four children and two men present. A guest Mrs Harter attended a day of meals readings and business. A potted plant was given to Mrs Emmett Haley new baby girl and a Red Cross fund was started. Next meeting July 12 hosted by Mrs Isabel Gooch with Bible verse roll call and crochet hooks for rug making.

Cpl John Erlin Hoskins arrives home from overseas duty with the Armed Forces after serving since 1940. Wife of Sonora Man Receives Notice of Death

Mrs. T. A. Mullins received a letter from Mrs. Lee Brown of Sonora California announcing the death of her husband in June. Burial took place in Columbia cemetery near her home. Mr. Brown had been in failing health for several years. Mrs. Brown was formerly Miss Effie Mullins.

The W S of C S met June 29 at Mrs. W W Crawford’s home. Velma Jennings led the service with Ira Nevins assisting. Mr and Mrs Lyle Britton entertained at their farm on June 22 honoring their son Spencer of the Army Air Corps Enlisted Reserve. Spencer, seventeen, recently graduated in the top ten percent of Milan High School and passed Army Navy tests in Kirksville St Louis then St Joseph for a Reserve enlistment. The party used barn as dance area and a war production picture screen with electric music and lighting. Mrs Britton served numerous sandwiches while Mr Britton dispensed cold Coca Cola as weather held crowd past midnight.
