Birthday telephone call from Hawaii brings son home

The line from Staff Sgt Howard R Carter, with a U S hospital unit, was completed about eight thirty in the evening. The call celebrated Mrs Carter's birthday and came after nearly three years of service, including twenty months in the Hawaiian Islands. She heard him clearly and was thrilled by the long-distance talk.

George Washington Birthday Tea Hosted by Methodist Circle

Rottmann Killed in Action in Pacific War

Private First Class Gerald F. Rottmann of Carrollton Missouri was killed on February 4 1944 on Kwajalein Island in the Marshall group in the southwest Pacific. He volunteered in 1941 and served in the Pacific theater, survived by his parents two sisters and a brother serving in the Aleutians. his death was announced by the Adjutant General in Washington.
